We’ve had a busy time recently working throughout Scotland including a pleasant trip to Inchcolm Island in the Firth of Forth to survey the trees around Inchcolm Abbey.

A more unusual job carried out this last week was the removal of wych elm saplings from several forks in a veteran sycamore at Beauly Priory. The saplings are thought to have seeded from the now fallen Beauly Elm and will be grown on off-site.

We started off the week in Aberdeenshire today. So sad to see the destruction left behind after .

Whole woodlands flattened and roads still closed due to fallen trees. Our thoughts go out to those affected. One of our survey sites was closed immediately to visitors due to wind blown trees.

That seems to be most of the leaf off the trees now, a bit daunting to think it’ll be nearly 6 months before nature springs back into colour.

The trees might be going into dormancy but we are busy working away. Always a pleasure to work locally to Inverness. We are lucky to have Rogie Falls as a backdrop to our ‘office’!

Meet Louis and Murphy!

We may have been a bit quiet on our social media this year running around after these wee pups but we are looking forward to sharing our adventures with you.

Autumn/winter is always our busy period and our time is filling up very quickly. This past week we’ve had the pleasure of working out at Applecross for The Applecross Trust - probably one of the most peaceful places we have been invited to work in Scotland.

We are now coming to the end of 6 months survey work in Edinburgh. Most of our time was spent in Holyrood Park inspecting almost 6,000 trees. What better way to end than with a survey of the trees in and around Edinburgh Castle.

Recently we have been carrying out annual tree risk assessments at Blair Castle. Diana’s Grove is situated on the grounds and is home to some of the finest and tallest trees in Scotland.

Our drone photographs do not do the size of these trees justice - you really have to walk through this woodland to fully appreciate their grand scale.

It is always a great pleasure to be involved with the management of trees in such prominent places in Scotland. These Norway Maple line Horse Wynd, adjacent to the Scottish Parliament Buildings. Our survey in Edinburgh also extended into the Palace of Holyrood House gardens where two rare Elm cultivars call home. The two Wentworth Elm, Ulmus ‘Wentworthii Pendula’, sit handsomely on the lawn of the palace gardens. Once thought to be extinct in the UK they dominate the garden landscape with thanks to the City of Edinburgh council and their proactive approach to the management of Dutch Elm Disease in the city over the years. We hope with this local management there will be Elm trees present in Scotland for future generations to enjoy.

Such a beautiful, warm day for the first meteorological day of autumn.

We were working local in Inverness today and spoilt with this view from the site. It’s amazing what’s tucked away, not too far from the city centre.

We are now offering the following drone services:

Aerial imagery in hard to inspect areas - safer and cheaper surveying without putting the surveyor in dangerous or inaccessible locations.

Aerial inspection as an extension to Level 2 VTA tree inspections.

Assessment of plant health and damage in relation to tree health pests and diseases.

Identification and monitoring of invasive species.

Forest acquisition surveys and promotional filming - for prospective buyers or agents.

Site vegetation and species mapping.

In addition to this, we look forward to sharing with you our aerial photography whilst working amongst some of the most bonnie landscapes in Scotland.
