Well, it's true that timber frame's ability to isolate all types of sounds is weaker than steel. Yet, differences in temperatures can make metal material to expand or shrink, and this can also make some squeaky sounds. To fight this issue for both construction methods, it's recommended to use soundproof materials and insulation.

During its production, steel requires 6 times more energy than timber so it creates a much bigger carbon footprint. The growing preference of timber frames increases the demand for wood, yet it also increases the demand for more new forests. So not only this encourages more ethical and sustainable practice but also lowers CO2 levels.

Check our recent blog to find out more about the differences between steel and timber frames. Read more about it here:

A letter from the Director

All my life I have worked within the construction industry building homes and spaces for the people of Scotland. Creating places where families can create lifelong memories is a passion of mine. To see and hear stories that have taken place in something I helped create… It is a humbling and honoring experience.

When timber frame construction picked up in the UK, I knew it was going to change the industry. The opportunity to create homes that weren’t confined by normal construction methods was refreshing. It allowed clients and contractors to explore new, exciting designs. Homes could be optimised spaces for living. As understanding how families were going to use their homes was the beginning of a great design. Rather than settle for less, our clients can have a home tailored exactly to their needs.

At The Kit Co. we are a tight knit, family run business. Our team of men and woman are expertly trained. They are passionate about creating something where the quality is second to none. At the end of each project you can sense the pride in the team as they bring each project to life. And I know that with their exacting standards, if the team are happy then the client is sure to feel the same. From design to completion our family of workers create an experience you’ll never forget.

Creating sustainable and bespoke homes for families in Scotland and Northern will always be a passion of mine. Having worked in the construction industry for almost 40 years the knowledge and experience I have gained will never stop to amaze me. The Kit Co. is a way for me to share this knowledge with you. I aim to help all my clients with their journey to a timber frame home personally.
