Just because your wiring is old, that doesn’t mean it’s unsafe to use. Most of the time a consumer unit (fuse box) upgrade is the best solution. Brick EV chargers connected to a 13a outside socket is commonplace. But 13a sockets are not designed to run high currents for long periods and can overheat as in the top two photos. The solution is a dedicated high current charger like the one we installed, bottom left, but these can be expensive to buy and install. In this recent example (bottom right) we fitted an interlocked 16a commando plug and socket arrangement that will allow long term use of the customers brick charger.
