The best project knowledge isn't always found in a drawing.

Sometimes it comes from the person who's seen the same challenge before.

With 35% of our team having been with Barnfield for more than 10 years, there’s a huge amount of experience across the business.

That knowledge gets shared every day — between sites, departments and generations.

And it's something we never take for granted.

WE ASKED TIM WEBBER...

👷What qualities does a leader need?

"A leader needs integrity above all else. If people trust your word, they'll follow you through difficult times.

I'd also say resilience is important. Over fifty years in business we've seen recessions, financial crises, changing regulations and plenty of challenges along the way. You don't survive that long without learning to stay calm, adapt and keep moving forward.

Good leaders also need humility. You should never think you're bigger than the team around you. Some of the best ideas come from the people closest to the job.

And finally, a leader needs to care. Care about the people you work with, the communities you serve and the legacy you're leaving behind. If you get those things right, the rest tends to follow. As we'd say in Lancashire, there's no substitute for hard work, treating people fairly, and getting stuck in when it matters."

We're proud to share that Barnfield Construction has achieved Silver status in the Supply Chain Sustainability School.

This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to improving sustainability across our operations and supply chain. From reducing environmental impact and supporting social value initiatives to promoting responsible business practices, we're continually working to build a more sustainable future for our clients, communities and industry.

Achieving Silver status is an important milestone, but it's also a stepping stone as we continue to develop our knowledge, strengthen collaboration with our supply chain partners, and drive positive change across the construction sector.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in helping us reach this achievement.

WE ASKED TIM WEBBER...

👷Which leaders have inspired you and why?

"One leader I've always admired is Winston Churchill.

What stands out about Churchill wasn't just his determination during difficult times, but his ability to inspire people when the odds were against them. He gave people confidence, belief and a sense of purpose when it would have been much easier to lose heart. That resilience and refusal to give in is something I've always respected.

Closer to home, I've also been inspired by many of the people I've worked alongside throughout my career. Construction is full of quiet leaders who turn up every day, take responsibility, support their teams and get the job done without seeking recognition. Those qualities have always impressed me just as much as anything you'll read in a history book."

WE ASKED TIM WEBBER...

👷 What do you think makes a good leader?

"For me, a good leader is somebody who leads by example rather than just telling people what to do. In construction, and in business generally, people soon work out whether you're prepared to roll your sleeves up and face the same challenges they're facing.

I've always believed that if you work hard, do what you say you're going to do, and treat people properly, you'll earn trust. That's been one of the foundations of Barnfield from day one. A leader doesn't need to have all the answers, but they do need to be visible, honest, and willing to make difficult decisions when needed.

Most importantly, leadership is about people. Buildings, projects and businesses are only ever as good as the people behind them, and a leader's job is to bring the best out in those people."
