Last week we had a call from a customer concerned that a dishonest rogue salesman had maliciously broken their solar PV inverter in order to sell them a replacement inverter.

We were unable to power up the original inverter at all despite both solar PV strings and the AC supply testing correctly, unfortunately it was found that the inverter had been intentionally damaged. We provided the customer with three options to resolve the issue;
π₯ Replace the existing inverter (in the loft)
π₯ Replace the existing inverter and relocate to the garage where it would be more accessible and would not overheat
π₯ Replace the exiting inverter, relocate to the garage and add battery storage, making the whole upgrade zero rated VAT, saving 20%

Our customer went with option number 3, as our price to replace and relocate the inverter, as well as adding battery storage was cheaper than original rogue traders replacement inverter and they now benefitted with zero rated vat as well as stored energy. Did you know that it is advised that solar PV inverters should not be placed in lofts? This is due to the heat making them less efficient and developing a risk to causing fires due to the excessive heat build up.
