Today's carpet repair took me upstairs to a bedroom where some very deep burns had left several holes in the carpet.

The damage was quite severe, so I had to remove the affected section, replace a tiny bit of damaged underlay underneath, and carefully fit a replacement piece of carpet.

And the difference? Absolutely fantastic compared to what was there before! ๐Ÿ˜

But the best part wasn't the repair itself. It was the customer's reaction.

He was absolutely over the moon with the result and even said he couldn't tell where the damaged area had been!

That's exactly the kind of reaction that makes this work so rewarding.

Carpet repairs aren't always completely invisible, and the final appearance depends on several factors, including the carpet's condition, construction and available matching material. But when everything comes together like this, the difference can be remarkable.

Sometimes, a carpet repair isn't about making the damage invisible. It's about solving a much bigger problem. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Today's job was a perfect example.

Severe water damage had left one corner of the carpet badly discoloured, with black mould on the backing. The damaged section simply had to go.

The challenge? The carpets in this house are at least 30 years old! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Decades of sunlight, everyday foot traffic and general wear have completely changed their original appearance.

Luckily, we managed to find a spare piece inside a fitted wardrobe. It was the same carpet, but because it had been protected from sunlight and foot traffic for all those years, it had retained much more of its original colour.

And what a difference in shade! ๐Ÿ˜…

The replacement section is noticeably darker than the surrounding carpet. Over time, exposure to daylight and normal use may help reduce that contrast, although an exact colour match can never be guaranteed.

But here's what's important.

The badly damaged section has been removed and replaced with sound carpet. That's far more important than chasing an invisible repair, especially when dealing with carpets of this age.

And the best part? The customers are very happy with the result! ๐Ÿ˜Š

The damage itself wasnโ€™t overly noticeable and probably wouldnโ€™t stand out too much on an older carpet โ€” but on a brand-new carpet fitted only last week or so, it caught the eye straight away.

Repair completed, a fantastic result, and most importantly, one very happy customer. ๐Ÿ™Œ

A little hamster escaped from his cage and dug and chewed several deep holes into this beige bedroom carpet in Newark. ๐Ÿน

Another carpet repair completed today in Nottingham โ€” this time a circular burn in a loop pile carpet, right in a very high-traffic area.

The surrounding pile was heavily worn and flattened, while the spare donor piece I was given was almost brand new. That meant a 100% blend simply wasnโ€™t possible โ€” you canโ€™t instantly recreate years of foot traffic on a fresh piece of carpet.

But the goal was simple: remove the obvious burn and make a HUGE improvement.

And the difference? ๐Ÿ‘€

Much better than we expected. ๐Ÿ™Œ

The new section should naturally blend in further as it gets walked on and the pile starts to settle.

Customer happy. Iโ€™m happy. Happy days. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

This one was apparently caused by an ironโ€ฆ although I have to admit, thatโ€™s one interestingly shaped iron burn. ๐Ÿ˜„

The bigger challenge wasnโ€™t just the damage itself. It was right in a high-traffic area between the bed and window, where the surrounding carpet pile was already heavily worn and flattened.

The donor carpet, on the other hand, was nearly new โ€” so I knew from the beginning the repaired area would naturally stand out to some degree.

No rushing. I took my time, blended it as much as the carpet allowed, and gave it the best finish possible.

Invisible? No.
A whole lot better than a big burn in the middle of the carpet? Absolutely. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Most importantly, the customer was very happy with the result โ€” and that's another damaged carpet that didn't need replacing.
