⚡ Protect your EV charger from cable thieves! ⚡

We’ve received a high volume of calls and message recently from customers concerned about EV charging cables being targeted for their copper — and unfortunately, they’re not exactly coming round to borrow them! 😅

There are a few ways you can make your EV charger more secure:

🔌 Go untethered – No permanently attached cable means there’s nothing sitting outside ready to be snipped off.

🔒 Lock it away – A lockable metal enclosure can be installed around your charger for an extra layer of protection.

💡 Add security lighting – Motion-activated floodlights can make your driveway a lot less appealing to anyone up to no good. 👀

🎥 Consider CCTV – Visible cameras and smart alerts are another great deterrent.

⚡ Emergency Call Out ⚡

We were recently called out after a customer heard sparking noises coming from their consumer unit.

After investigating the fault, we found the cause... a badly overheated circuit breaker, which had started to melt, as you can see in the photo below. 🔥

Thankfully, the customer acted quickly by calling us as soon as they noticed something wasn't right. Strange noises, burning smells or frequent tripping should never be ignored, as electrical faults can become dangerous if left unchecked.

This is also a great reminder of why Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) are so important. They're not just for rental properties, homeowners can benefit just as much.

An EICR helps identify worn, damaged or unsafe electrical components before they develop into bigger (and often more expensive) problems, giving you peace of mind that your home's electrics are safe and working as they should. ✅

At FS Electrical, we take a lot of pride in the quality of our work.

Whether it's a full rewire, an EICR, or installing one of Cam's beautifully organised fuse boards (seriously, they're almost too tidy to put a cover on), we believe every job should be completed to the highest standard.

Our team takes pride in what they do every day. Although we're still trying to work out how Chris manages to demolish four packets of biscuits before 9am, and we're fairly certain Frazer's nose can detect a fresh brew from three streets away☕

⚠️ What We've Found This Week ⚠️

During a recent property inspection, we identified two issues that are more common than many landlords realise:

🔌 Unsafe electrical wiring – signs of previous alterations that did not meet current safety standards and had the potential to become a serious hazard.

🚨 Out-of-date smoke alarms – alarms that had exceeded their recommended lifespan and could not be relied upon to provide adequate protection in the event of a fire.

Neither issue was obvious during a routine visit, but both were identified through a thorough inspection.

For landlords and estate agents, regular electrical inspections and safety checks aren't just about compliance,they help ensure properties remain safe for tenants and reduce the risk of costly problems later on.

Started a friendly competition between the lads to see who can wire the neatest consumer unit ⚡

Safe to say everyone’s taken it very seriously:
• perfectly dressed cables
• labels lined up flawlessly
• and consumer units so tidy nobody wants to put the cover back on 👌

Meanwhile Cam has officially declared himself:
“the best consumer unit installer in Nottinghamshire”

…and has confirmed he will not be accepting alternative opinions at this time 😂
