Today I completed a dead hedge for a client in Winthorpe. They were delighted with the result.

A dead hedge is a sustainable, natural barrier made by tightly stacking cut branches, twigs, and woody debris between sturdy vertical stakes driven into the ground. It acts as an eco-friendly alternative to traditional fencing, recycling garden waste while creating a thriving habitat for wildlife.

The wildflowers at the Cross site in North Collingham look fantastic this year in preparation for the Collingham in Bloom judging panel visit in early July.

I've been maintaining the area for three years now with the aim of re-establishing the wildflowers after a period of neglect where there was little colour and wild grasses took over.

For good results I find that Wildflower areas like this need to be managed carefully. They require careful assessment throughout the year with well timed strategic cuts so that wild grasses don't take over and smother the delicate wildflowers.

I resurrected a neglected allotment and put it back into productive use.

It looked lovely partially rewilded with all the poppies in full flower but the plot holder and allotment committee wanted it back under control.

Today we mowed and strimmed a tidy border around the wildflower area surrounding the historic cross in North Collingham.
The village is making a big effort again this year for Collingham in Bloom, the wildflower area at the cross is featured on the judging route.
