Ofgem's confirmed October's rate
gas bills are rising 8%, while homes without gas see less than 1% change. Overall, the typical household cap is up 4% to £1,723/year from 1st October.

The further you are from gas, the less these rises actually touch you — which is exactly why heat pumps, solar and battery are becoming the norm.

"But aren't heat pumps expensive to run?" Not compared to what they replace. Typically £700–1,100/year to run, against £1,400–1,900/year for a gas boiler — because a heat pump moves heat rather than generates it.

On oil or LPG? The switch has never been more affordable, with the grant now at £9,000 for off-grid homes.

Quick update if you're on oil or LPG: the £9,000 heat pump grant that landed in July is now fully live, running through to March 2027.

Worth a conversation if those old LPG or Oil boilers let you down last year, especially with autumn installs already filling up.

Oil to heat pump: what actually made this switch happen.

This homeowner had a 2-bed bungalow, heated by oil for years. They'd already decided a heat pump was the right move before choosing an installer.

What sealed it was simple: our local visibility. With the new office and showroom in Tuxford and an open-door policy for anyone with questions or requests, no appointment needed.

The system: a NIBE F2050 6kW air source heat pump paired with a 160-litre cylinder. A government grant helped offset the upfront cost, as it does for most oil and LPG switches.

❗INDUSTRY UPDATE❗

From 21 July, the heat pump grant for oil and LPG homes rises to £9,000.
If you heat with oil or LPG, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant increases from £7,500 to £9,000 from 21 July a £1,500 uplift specifically for off-gas-grid homes and the largest heat pump grant available to date.
