Three jumpers. Two pairs of socks. A hot chocolate being used as life support.

Still standing there saying, “Lovely evening, actually.” 😂☕

Then the fireworks start and suddenly we’re all qualified judges:

“Ooooh.”
“That was a good one.”
“Reckon that’s the finale.”

It was not the finale. There are another twelve finales. 😅

A BORDER IS NOT A HEDGE. PLEASE PUT THE BIG SHEARS DOWN. ✂️😂

Garden maintenance is not giving every plant the same haircut.

🌼 Some spent flowers can be removed to keep things tidy and encourage more flowering where the plant and season allow.
🌾 Some seed heads are worth keeping for wildlife and winter structure.
🌿 Lavender needs its own approach: avoid cutting into old, leafless wood. Timing and variety matter, and a late-season hard prune is not the answer.

YOUR GATE SHOULD OPEN. YOUR FENCE SHOULD NOT DANCE. 🔧😂

Three outdoor annoyances worth getting checked before wet weather makes them worse:

1️⃣ A dragging gate — check hinges, posts and clearance.
2️⃣ A loose slab — get the cause assessed rather than just disguising the wobble.
3️⃣ A moving fence — check the posts and fixings, not just the panel.

NEW TURF CANNOT HIDE A BAD FOUNDATION. 🌱

Rolling it out is the bit everyone notices. What happens underneath is what helps it settle properly.

We look at weeds, debris, soil condition, levels and drainage before talking about the finish. Then there is aftercare: suitable watering, keeping wear down while it establishes and mowing at the right stage.

A green carpet over a problem is still a problem, just better dressed. 😂

IVE SMALL JOBS. SIX MONTHS OF SAYING ‘I’LL GET TO IT’. 🔧😂

A gate that drags. A shed door that sticks. Decking that needs attention. None of it feels big enough to organise… until the list takes over your weekend.

General property maintenance means getting the suitable small jobs assessed together, then agreeing what can sensibly be bundled into a visit. No promising five jobs in an hour before we have even seen them.

🌱 Fresh turf can look brilliant on day one. The real test is what happens underneath it afterwards.

Proper turf preparation includes removing old growth, correcting levels, improving the soil, creating a firm surface and thinking about drainage before the first roll is laid.

Poor preparation can become visible later as puddles, dips, dry patches and uneven growth.

The first weeks matter too: follow current watering rules, keep traffic off, avoid mowing too early and use sharp blades on a higher setting when mowing begins.

THE SCARIEST THING IN THE GARDEN? MY SUMMER PROMISES. 🎃👻

“I’ll do that next weekend.”

That was June, boss. Even the ghost has picked up a rake now. 😂🍂

The cobwebs are authentic. The mysterious shape behind the shed is probably the chair nobody’s moved since the barbecue. And whatever’s living in that plant pot now pays council tax.

Tonight, we’re calling it Halloween décor. Very sustainable. Absolutely planned. 😏

🔧 Got five small jobs and nobody sensible to call?

One loose gate. A shed repair. Pressure washing. Something to assemble. That awkward little job that has lived on the list since approximately 2019. 😂

🪵 Repair or replace? Start underneath—not with the colour of the boards.

Before deciding, check:
⚠️ Movement underfoot
⚠️ Soft or rotten timber
⚠️ Joists and support posts
⚠️ Loose or corroded fixings

A few damaged boards may be repairable when the frame remains sound. Widespread rot, movement or failed supports can make repeated patching poor value—and potentially unsafe.
