The joys of having a core drill done today… 33°C outside and drilling a 4-inch hole through the bedroom wall for the new air-conditioning unit 😅

Portable AC had to be brought in during the install just to survive the heat, but it’ll all be worth it tonight 👌

EICR carried out today on a TT system

Been a while since I last properly tested one.
Ze measured at 58Ω.

All final circuit Zs values are above the 80% of tabulated maximum Zs requirement, so compliance with ADS has not been achieved however these are RCD protected so within 1667 requirements.

RCD-protected final circuits all achieved disconnection within 300ms as required, confirming correct operation of additional protection.

Overall a satisfactory installation with no remedial works required based on test results.

On another note, I tried NAPIT’s new AI feature that’s meant to generate reports from a photo. Gave it a go today — still a long way off being reliable in real-world use. Manual reporting still comes out quicker and more accurate but when has napit fast test ever worked as its suppose to lol.

Another outdated 3036 board or 3 replaced 👀⚡

No RCD protection… no proper bonding… undersized tails… basically a disaster waiting to happen.

People still ask why electricians “charge so much” — because we’re the ones fixing the dangerous shortcuts left behind for years.

New board fitted, tails upgraded, bonding brought up to standard, and proper RCD protection installed ✅

But yeah… “it was working fine before” 🤦‍♂️

Would you trust your family’s safety to this old setup? Or keep pretending it’s “just a fuse board”? 🔥

Always use a CPS quality electrician — because cutting corners on electrics can cost far more in the long run ⚡

⚡️ Quick sanity check – would you call this a C2 or something else? ⚡️

Been looking at a setup today and I’m not 100% convinced it’s right.

Single insulated conductors going into an isolator, and the termination doesn’t look properly contained/managed. Feels like a potential C2 under BS 7671, but I’ve seen mixed opinions on similar installs.

My thinking:

Possible conductor protection issue on entry
Strain relief / insulation management not quite right

Could be borderline acceptable depending on method?

Or am I being too picky here?

👉 What would you code it? 👉 C2, C3, or leave it? 👉 And what’s your reasoning?

Always interested to see how others interpret these ones.

EICR Update ⚡️

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) was carried out today on circuit 5, supplying a boiler.

Result:

Circuit 5: Satisfactory

The electrical circuit supplying the boiler was found to be in a satisfactory condition at the time of inspection.

It is noted that there is no RCD protection on the installation, however this did not affect the outcome of the circuit tested.

The electrical installation itself was sound, with the issue relating to the boiler having an internal fault, which has been referred back under warranty for repair.

Older protective systems such as BS 3036 fuse boards can still be acceptable under certain conditions, depending on installation design and compliance with BS 7671 requirements.

Further inspection would be required for a full assessment of the installation as a whole.
Safety and compliance remain the priority ⚡️

As an electrician, the best way to create a constant flow of work isn’t by constantly advertising — it’s by building a strong, loyal client base.

When you do good work, turn up on time, communicate well, and leave customers happy, they remember you. More importantly, they recommend you.

Word of mouth is the most powerful form of marketing in this trade.

Repeat customers and referrals will always beat chasing new leads every week.

Build trust. Build relationships. Build your reputation.

That’s how you keep the work coming in consistently. ⚡🔧

There’s something special about the old 3036 boards — beautifully made, solid craftsmanship, and a design that really stands out. You can tell they were built to last, with attention to detail you don’t always see today.

Unfortunately, while they still look fantastic, they no longer comply with current regulations and standards, so they’re not suitable for modern use.

That said, they deserve appreciation for the quality and character they bring. Some are so well made and visually impressive, they’re almost worth framing rather than replacing.
