Six months into his role at CCL Group, Niall Short, Management Accountant, is already making his mark across the business.
Niall works company-wide, supporting our teams, projects and wider financial operations. And while his role might be all about accuracy, reporting and keeping things on track, thereโs much more to it than numbers.
To mark his first six months with CCL Group, we asked Niall six questions about his role, his experience and where the good biscuits are hidden!

My role is centred around making sure the Group has clear, accurate and reliable financial information to support decision-making.
That includes preparing our monthly management accounts and cashflow projections, monitoring internal controls and making sure reporting requirements and deadlines are met. Iโm also always looking for ways we can improve processes and make how we work more efficient.

There really isnโt one! The role is shaped by month-end, quarterly and annual deadlines, so every day can be different.
A big part of my time is spent working with the finance team and colleagues across CCL Group, understanding what they need and identifying where we can make improvements. Thereโs always something to progress, review or refine.

Good financial information gives teams the confidence to make informed decisions.
My role is about making sure that information is reliable and that the systems behind it are working effectively. As the Group continues to grow, having strong processes and controls in place becomes even more important.

Iโve actually worked at CCL Group before โ I started my career here!
So, while everyone might think Iโve settled in quickly because Iโm exceptionally efficient, the truth is I already knew my way around quite a few of the systems.
More importantly, I also remembered where the good biscuits and treats are hidden. In true CCL tradition, absolutely nothing has changed. Consistency matters!

Having previously worked at CCL Group, I already had a good understanding of the business and how its financial processes connect.
Since then, Iโve also gained experience in other sectors, particularly manufacturing, which has exposed me to different methods, controls and ways of working. Being able to combine that outside experience with my knowledge of CCL Group gives me a useful perspective in the role.

The scale of the growth.
Coming back, it was great to see how much the business had developed โ from the increase in operational sites to CCL Groupโs expanding reach across Europe.
That growth also makes my role particularly interesting. As the business continues to develop, strong financial information, systems and processes become increasingly important in supporting what comes next.
