PMR Architecture

PMR Architecture An ambitious, multi-award winning, RIBA Chartered Practice in South Devon and Brighton.

Nothing to see here…

Just a normal day at the PMR Architecture studio.

A director on a clown bike.
A colleague in a dinosaur suit.
Absolutely no questions asked.

This is just a small preview of the fun to come at tomorrow’s PMR Trail Network ride at Haldon Forest, where we’ll be adding a couple of charity challenges before heading out onto the trails as part of our fundraising for Rowcroft Hospice.
A relaxed networking ride, a brilliant local charity, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting.

Wish us luck. We think we might need it.

LAST CHANCE TO BOOK YOUR PLACE!

There are just a couple of spaces left for our next PMR Trail ride at Haldon Forest Park.

A big thank you to George Fielding-Wolf for capturing our July’s PMR Trail Network ride at Haldon Forest so brilliantly.

It’s not every day you have someone join you who is just as happy behind the camera as they are out on the trails, so we were very lucky to have George as part of the group.

The images do a fantastic job of showing what the event is all about: fresh air, mountain biking, good conversation and bringing people from across the construction industry together in a more relaxed setting.

Thanks again to everyone who joined us and helped make the second PMR Trail Network ride such a great morning.

A few progress photos from our project at Yarner Wood, within East Dartmoor National Nature Reserve.

The Douglas Fir glulam timber frame is now complete, marking a major milestone for the project. Constructed using timber from the Nature Reserve itself, the frame gives the building its true sense of scale and form for the first time.

It’s incredibly rewarding to see the structure taking shape on site, particularly on a project where the material choice, setting and construction approach are so closely connected.

A big thank you to everyone involved in helping bring this stage together, including Buckland Timber, Natural England and Concept.

Meet Michael Pirrie, Senior Architect at PMR Architecture.
With over 10 years’ experience in the residential sector across the South East, Michael has worked on a wide variety of projects, from large housing developments through to smaller bespoke schemes.
He brings together a strong design eye with a practical, hands-on approach to delivery, and has experience across all stages of the RIBA Plan of Work.
Alongside his role at PMR, Michael is also a committee member for RIBA Sussex and Chair of the Small and Emerging Practices Group, contributing to the wider architectural community and supporting conversation across the profession.
Outside of architecture, Michael enjoys travelling and recently went on a big trip to Japan — which we’re sure provided plenty of design inspiration along the way.
We’re very pleased to have Michael as part of the PMR team.

Pedals, breakfast and plenty of good conversation.

Yesterday morning we were back at Haldon Forest for our second PMR Trail Network ride, bringing together people from across the construction industry for a morning away from desks and site meetings.

It was great to spend time with everyone out on the trails before heading back for coffee and breakfast - the perfect way to start the day.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the morning such a success.

We’re really enjoying seeing this network grow and look forward to welcoming more riders over the coming months.

Drop us a message and we’ll add you to the invite list for the next ride.

A recent site visit to one of our projects in a stunning South Devon location, set on the edge of a tidal mill pond.
The project involves the expansion and careful adaptation of an existing home, with proposals including a new top-floor dormer, a side extension to create an enlarged kitchen, and a substantial lower ground floor providing a new bedroom, gym, sauna and hot tub area.
The ground floor is clad in a linear brick, helping to emphasise the horizontal form of the design and the cantilevered terrace above the hot tub area.
Throughout the project, careful consideration has been given to the materials, detailing and overall finish, ensuring the new elements sit seamlessly with the existing building and respond to the calm, waterside setting.
It’s always rewarding to see a design taking shape on site, particularly in such a special location.

Last week, we were pleased to welcome three work experience students to PMR Architecture, in both our branches, Newton Abbot and Brighton.

We’re always keen to support young people who are considering a career in architecture and, where we can, give them an insight into life within a working studio.

Over the course of the week they studied a site and explored the early stages of the design process. They began by developing ideas through freehand sketches for a residential building, before translating their designs into scaled 3D models using SketchUp and further developing it with the help of AI.

It was great to see their ideas develop and to introduce them to some of the skills, processes and technology used in architectural practice. Swipe 👉🏾to check out their work.

We hope they enjoyed their week with us!
