🔨 When a Quick Fix Becomes a Costly Repair

At first glance, this window looked perfectly acceptable. It had been patched up, painted over and appeared sound from a distance. Unfortunately, appearances can be deceiving.

On inspection, we discovered that the previous repair had simply covered over the underlying problem rather than addressing it correctly. Rotten timber had been filled, painted and sealed in, trapping moisture and allowing the decay to continue unseen.

Over time, this led to extensive rot throughout the lower sections of the frame, turning what could have been a minor repair into a much larger restoration project.

Proper window maintenance isn't just about making timber look good. It requires identifying the root cause of the damage, removing all affected material, carrying out structural repairs where necessary, and ensuring the window is protected against future water ingress.

Concrete Window Sill Restoration Complete ✅ PLUS the sun was out!

Another exterior repair completed by Claxton & Palmer.

This concrete window sill had seen better days, with damaged and weathered sections requiring careful restoration. We carried out a full repair and re-moulding of the sill to bring it back to its original profile and ensure long-lasting protection against the elements.

🔨 Damaged concrete repaired and re-shaped
🖌️ Primed with high-performance shellac primer
🎨 Finished with 2 coats of AllCoat Satin White for a durable weather-resistant finish
🧽 Old, deteriorated window silicone removed
✔️ New external-grade silicone installed for a clean, watertight seal

On this project, the rear wall was stripped back, removed and completely realigned to bring everything back square and true before the new kitchen installation begins.
