🔍 Sometimes it's the smallest parts of the lock that cause the issue.

In this case, a tiny piece of metal had broken off inside the gearbox of this uPVC patio door and all of a sudden that door wouldn't open for love nor money!

I got to the bottom of it though, ID-ing the gearbox and working out just where to make my mark to minimise damage to the door, get it open and fixed.

Nothing like a fresh mortice install 😍😍

This commercial customer wanted to be able to lock the door to their office at night, but there was no lock installed!

I selected a fire rated euro deadlock with a thumbturner eurocylinder so people can get out in a hurry, while neatly securing the door.

🗝️ Another day, another job to gain entry and change a lock, this time at a short term rental property in St Helens. I arrived within 20 minutes of receiving a call from the property manager and had the lock changed with 10 minutes. Happy customer, onto the next job

It all started because through my locksmithing work; I'd get my drill out and somebody would ask of I put up shelves?

Can you spot the issue with this door lock?

ANSWER:

This standard night latch wouldn't let the homeowner engage the snib at night to lockdown the property, but all because the keep wasn't aligned with the nightlatch itself!

It's actually about 5mm out which was more than enough to mean the latch couldn't extend fully and the snib couldn't engage.

I got it all readjusted and the lock is saved, the customer happy and secure.

Garage door locks 🔑

This customer had lost their keys and needed access pronto!

I drove over ASAP and gained entry without causing any damage to the garage door, and swapped out the old lock for a new cylinder from .

Lovely customer too!

Are your patio doors tough to close, open or lock?

Big uPVC patio doors have big heavy glazing units in them, but also spend a lot of time open, hanging on their hinges.

Overtime, this means they tend to shift position or fall out of shape.

The early symptoms of poor alignment are having to slam them shut and pull really hard on the handle to get them locked.

But left to get worse it can cause more costly repairs like broken gearboxes, handles and snapped keys.

The customer hadn't opened these doors since before Christmas because they had become difficult to close.

But a good servicing from me and they are bang on again, pulling back into their weather seal with hardly any effort and no pressure on the gearbox.
