The Constructing Excellence Midlands awards are almost here! πŸ†

We're finalists for the Social Impact award for Collingham Brook alongside Gusto Construction, a development designed to reduce social isolation and bring the community together.

We're in great company in our category and it's brilliant to see so many impactful projects recognised. Good luck to everyone tomorrow night πŸ‘πŸ½

A different kind of project πŸ‘‡πŸ½

We've recently submitted a Listed Building Consent application for repair works to a historic boundary wall in Newark.

The wall sits to the rear of 15 Wilson Street, a Grade II listed Georgian building, and borders the churchyard of St Mary Magdalene Church, a Grade I listed church.

The wall had developed a significant lean and was considered unstable, so careful repair works are needed to preserve it for the long term. Every original brick will be salvaged, cleaned and reused wherever possible, with the wall rebuilt using traditional lime mortar to match the historic fabric as closely as possible.

Progress at Station Yard πŸ‘‡πŸ½

Designed by us and delivered by Gusto Construction, this social housing development of 1 and 2-bedroom homes in Collingham is on track for completion later this month.

This development is part of the larger Collingham Brook masterplan, so the tenants will be a short walk away from Gusto House and all its classes, alongside a gym and The Allotment cafe.

And those brick arches are a lovely nod to the Grade II listed Station House next door. πŸš‚

We love seeing the next generation get stuck in!

Last week we welcomed Oliver from The Kings School in Grantham for a week of work experience with us.

Oliver has ambitions of becoming an architect, so spending the week working closely with our Associate Emma Clarke, gave him a real look at what the industry is like.

Oliver spent the week designing a 4-bedroom self-build from scratch, and presented it to the entire team on Friday! He also took a trip to The Old School Yard with Jasmine Craft from Gusto Construction to see how a project takes shape on site.

"Oliver proved himself to be a highly motivated and capable student with a genuine interest in architecture. He was a pleasure to have in the studio, and we have no doubt that he has a promising future ahead in the field!" said Emma.

We wish Oliver the best of luck with the rest of his studies! πŸ’š

Let’s talk about h**p 🌱

We are working with a private client on two self-build homes in Norton Disney – both homes will be timber frame, one with standard insulation and one with natural h**p insulation.

H**p is a fast-growing plant, reaching full maturity in as little as 4 months. It requires very little water, no pesticides and actually improves the soil it grows in. As a renewable material, it’s hard to beat. πŸ‘πŸ½

Compared to conventional insulation materials, which are often manufactured using energy intensive processes, h**p is a genuinely low-impact alternative.

We are really excited to see how the two homes compare once complete, especially when they will be looking out at this view ✈️

Groundworks have begun πŸ₯³

We’re happy to share that work has officially commenced on The Orchards, a residential development we are delivering for Lafford Group.

The Orchards consists of 40 private sale and rental two, three, four & five-bedroom homes with green spaces and a community-focused street design in the village of Greylees, just outside of Sleaford.

We have been working with Lafford Group for many years, but this is our first project working in partnership with Gusto Construction for Lafford Group.

We’re looking forward to bringing this scheme to life alongside the Gusto Construction team. πŸ’š

Meet Wilma Gresswell, our Practice Manager. πŸ‘‹πŸΌ

Wilma has been part of the Studio G team since 2012, bringing with her years of experience working in administration within architectural businesses, so it's safe to say she knows a thing or two about keeping a studio running smoothly!

She manages the day-to-day running of the studio and plays a key role in implementing and maintaining our ISO9001 and Constructionline accreditations.

Outside of the studio, Wilma has been a volunteer with the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association since 2016 πŸ’š

Is this the most energy efficient office in Lincolnshire? πŸ‘‡πŸ½

Back in 2013, that was our goal when we designed a new office for Cool Milk.

Bridge House was designed with sustainability at its core, featuring technology such as solar PV, air source heat pumps, rainwater harvesting and mechanical heat recovery ventilation.

It was also believed to be the first building in Lincolnshire to use the Thin Joint System. This construction method uses aircrete blocks and a quick-setting adhesive in place of traditional block and mortar, making the building more airtight and quicker to construct.

The result? Energy costs cut by half and carbon emissions reduced by up to 75%.

A project we are really proud of and a brilliant example of what’s possible when the client shares our vision for sustainable design. πŸ‘πŸ½

Meet Heba Al Radi, our Senior Architectural Technician πŸ‘‹πŸΌ

Heba brings over a decade of experience to the studio, graduating from the Arab International University in 2012 and beginning her career in Syria.

Her passion for architecture has only grown since, with a focus on sustainable design and creating spaces that connect people with nature. Outside of the studio, she is a volunteer with wildlife and conservation groups across Nottinghamshire – a commitment that strongly influences her approach to design.

In 2023, Heba was recognised with the Outstanding Achievement Against All Odds award by Building the Future, an achievement that speaks for itself.

We are so glad to have her as part of the team. πŸ‘πŸ½

Planning approved πŸ₯³

We have an exciting project in the works for a private client in Lincolnshire.

The approval consists of the demolition of an existing barn and the er****on of a new extension to the dwelling, a fantastic opportunity to transform a rural property into something truly special.

We love how the design balances the character of the barn with the contemporary extension, don't you agree? ✨
