Inspired by the Coast

One of the themed gardens featured in my upcoming book is the seaside garden a style that captures the spirit of the coast, whether beside the sea or further inland.

I enjoy how pebbles, driftwood and coastal planting such as Sea Holly, Thrift and Rosemary can create a strong sense of place.

Derek Jarman’s iconic garden at Dungeness remains a great inspiration, showing how simple materials and resilient plants can create a truly memorable landscape.

As a Chartered Landscape Architect, I enjoy exploring how coastal influences can inspire modern garden design.

Read my latest blog!

As part of a recent landscape plan for a proposed children's home, I assessed the existing planting to help ensure the outdoor space would be safe for future residents.

Whilst there were no concerns about physical hazards, several plants raised questions due to their potentially poisonous nature.

In my latest blog, I discuss why plant selection matters when designing spaces for children and vulnerable people, and the factors that should be considered when reviewing existing planting schemes.

From Teaching Resource to Garden Inspiration

One of my favourite features to create on my website is my Plant of the Month.

What started as a simple way to share gardening knowledge and practical growing advice has evolved into a popular monthly feature.

Each month, I spotlight a different plant, sharing care tips, interesting facts, and advice to help you get the very best from it in your garden.

Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just beginning your gardening journey, there's always something new to learn and hopefully a little inspiration to take away.

This month's featured plant is now live, and I'd love for you to take a look:

I'd also love to hear your suggestions for future features. Which plant would you like me to cover next?

Landscape Design Meets Pokémon GO

One of the most rewarding aspects of being a Chartered Landscape Architect is seeing how people connect with the places I design.

Still Waters Run Deep in Northwich has its own PokéStop, giving visitors an opportunity to experience the space in a fun and unexpected way.

Whether you're exploring the local area, enjoying a walk, I'd love to hear what Pokémon you discover when you visit.

From Drawing Plans to Inspiring People

When I completed my degree in Landscape Design, I never imagined that teaching would become such a rewarding part of my career.

What began as a local course helping people design their own gardens soon developed into a genuine passion for helping others learn, create and grow in confidence.

Over the years, I’ve taught community garden design courses, supported students working towards City & Guilds qualifications, lectured degree students in landscape and planting design, and taught English as a Second Language.

One of the greatest rewards has been seeing people gain the skills and confidence to bring their ideas to life and create outdoor spaces that are truly their own.

It’s been an unexpected journey, but moving from drawing plans to inspiring people has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my career.

Have you ever designed your own garden or outdoor space?

From Concept to Completion

One of the most rewarding parts of my work is seeing a project evolve from an initial concept into a completed space that people can enjoy, use and value for years to come.

I’ve had the privilege of working alongside talented professionals across architecture, landscape design and construction, supporting projects from the earliest stages through to completion. Collaborating with RB Residences, Change Consulting, Pride Road Architects, Darren Curry and GK Construction has been both professionally rewarding and inspiring.

I believe the best projects are built on strong relationships, open communication and a shared commitment to achieving the best possible outcome.

Every project presents unique opportunities, and I enjoy helping to turn ideas into spaces that are both functional and meaningful.

If you're looking for dependable support on your next project, I’d be delighted to connect and discuss how we could work together.

The Lasting Value of a Sensory Garden

One of the themed gardens featured in my upcoming book is the sensory garden a space designed to engage the senses and encourage a deeper connection with nature.

As a Chartered Landscape Architect, I have always been interested in how planting, texture, fragrance, movement and sound can be combined to create rich and meaningful outdoor experiences. Sensory gardens offer something unique, inviting people to interact with and experience a landscape in different ways.

This is an approach I explored in my RHS show garden at Tatton Park, where sensory design was at the heart of the concept. It demonstrated how thoughtful landscape design can support wellbeing, inclusivity and a stronger connection to the natural world.
