FACT vs FICTION
FACT: The NPORS Novice Instructor Course provides successful candidates with an equivalent to Level 3 Award in Education and Training.

This course is designed for experienced operators who want to progress into instruction and become NPORS Registered Instructors. Before joining the programme, candidates must evidence their operational experience to ensure they’re ready to take the next step.

As part of the NPORS Novice Instructor Course, candidates complete three assessments:
• a theory examination
• delivery of a classroom lesson
• delivery of a practical lesson

We’re pleased to be supporting Lincolnshire Construction and Engineering Week 2026. With the mission to ignite passion and purpose in the next generation through immersive, inclusive and impactful construction and engineering experiences, it’s exactly the kind of initiative we’re proud to be part of.

The NPORS simulator offers a fun, hands-on introduction to operating plant machinery and helps plant become a sector young people can see themselves in when the time is right.

With the final bank holiday weekend to look forward to before Christmas (dare we mention this yet!), the NPORS office will be closed this coming Monday. Normal office hours will resume on Tuesday 1st September.

Just over two months ago we were at Hillhead Show. Looking at enquiries from the event, the most common question was about the course content for N209 Loading Shovel - so we thought we’d shine a spotlight on this category.

A hands on, practical course, N209 Loading Shovel covers a wide operational scope, including:
• Safe operation and hazard awareness,
• Machine control and efficiency,
• Confidence to operate in different environments – adapting to different ground conditions, materials and loading scenarios, and

Perfect timing, as we're hitting the road in September working with schools, colleges and educational organisations to highlight career pathways across construction, plant operations, utilities and associated sectors. These sessions help young people understand the opportunities available and support the long‑term development of a skilled, competent workforce.

As part of these activities, the NPORS Simulator will be attending events, giving future operators and instructors the opportunity to experience machinery controls in a safe and engaging environment. This hands-on experience provides an excellent introduction to the skills required within the industry and helps inspire the workforce of tomorrow.

Women remain underrepresented across plant and machinery, and meaningful change comes from creating real opportunities to explore the industry. That’s why it’s great to see KH Plant Training Ltd, an NPORS Accredited Training Provider, once again hosting a Women in Construction Day on Saturday 22 August.

Held at their dedicated training centre near Doncaster, this open day gives attendees the chance to operate construction machinery under the guidance of KH Plant Training’s instructors, with training tasters, hands on experience, refreshments and more.
