We are there! After months of planning, meetings, drawings, method statements and approvals, we’re finally ready to begin restoring the more than 400-year-old screen wall at The Old Lodge, Malton.
Because the wall forms part of a Scheduled Monument, every stage has had to be carefully planned and agreed. This has included detailed surveys, replacement stone samples, traditional mortar specifications, temporary works and scaffold alterations.
A special thank you to conservation advisor Nigel Copsey, whose knowledge, guidance and continued involvement have played an important role in getting the project to this stage and ensuring the work is approached correctly.
A big thank you once again to the team at ASK Scaffolding. They’ve worked closely with us throughout, adapting the scaffold around a very complex structure and doing a top job.
Scheduled Monument Consent is now in place, and we are aiming to start the sample area around the middle of next week, once the necessary scaffold alterations have been completed.
The sample area will then need to be inspected and approved before we can move forward with the main restoration work.
The replacement stone is being prepared, the materials and specialist equipment are ready, and we have an experienced and enthusiastic team in place who are eager to get started.
Chris and Jane deserve a great deal of credit for the time, care and investment they continue to put into The Old Lodge. They are committed to doing things properly and preserving this important part of Malton’s history for future generations.
