Across the summer, our teams have been delivering and completing Condition Improvement Fund projects for schools and academy trusts throughout the country.
These projects represent the final stage of a process that began long before the funding applications were submitted—from identifying the initial condition issue and developing the evidence through to securing funding, procuring the works and managing delivery on site.
However, completing one project often creates an opportunity to look more widely at the estate. While visiting schools over the summer, our surveyors have also been reviewing emerging condition issues, discussing future priorities with existing clients and identifying potential projects for the next CIF funding round. One example is a school we visited this summer, where compartmentation issues were identified during works being undertaken as part of a previous CIF project.
That early work is important. It provides time to investigate the condition of the estate, establish an appropriate project scope, gather supporting evidence and consider how each proposed project fits within the responsible body’s wider priorities. We are now speaking to existing and prospective clients about their plans for the next round.
