Since completing the Industry Associates Programme ,this was a 12 week course, where we got the chance to go back into college, learn essential teaching skills for a classroom environment and get paid for our commitment, itβs been invaluable.
We had the opportunity to speak at a personal development careers event at the College, directly to around 50 construction students and the feedback after was unreal.
One of my old friends who I havenβt seen in over 12 years messaged us saying had we been to the College? Her son bounced through the door with a spring in his step speaking highly about KG Construction and how weβre no different to any student, we started with nothing and built a successful business through hard work and graft. She told him she knew usβ¦ now he thinks sheβs the cool mum ππ
Some of the messages I pushed was build your personal brand, create opportunities and keep knocking on them doors. Even if you get rejected, go back a week later and again after that. If you truly want an opportunity with a certain company or individual, persistence will pay off.
One of the students really honed in on this. My inbox was full of messages that evening and the week after from him saying heβs only 17, wants an opportunity to show us what heβs capable of and can work the 2 days heβs not in college plus weekends.
Although I didnβt have a position for him, his persistence paid off. Heβs now gaining solid experience working directly alongside me and my brother. Luke Greaves
What a young lad he is, extremely polite, turned up 15 mins early to site with tape measure and pencils in his pocket, full PPE on and ready to go.
I can see a very bright future for this kid.
Sometimes all someone needs is one chance.
If your reading this and are a business owner or think you can offer some solid experience for the younger generation who are just finding looking for that opportunity please let us know and we can work together to find that candidate.
Thanks for reading and your support guys π
