Sash Windows Explained: Trickle Vents
Trickle vents. Tiny things. Surprisingly controversial.

They exist for one simple reason: ventilation.

Modern replacement windows are much better sealed than older, draughty ones. That’s great for warmth and comfort, but reduced airflow can lead to condensation, stale air and poorer indoor air quality.

So why are trickle vents required on many replacement windows?

Since the 2022 update to Approved Document F, many replacement windows are required to provide background ventilation, unless an alternative compliant solution is in place.

Fortunately, modern vent options can be far more discreet than people expect.

Originally built in 1868, The Main School House at Bishop's Stortford remains a landmark building within its 130 acre campus.

For this major renovation project, we manufactured and supplied more than 200 Ultimate Rose sash windows, carefully designed to complement the building's historic character while meeting the requirements of its sensitive conservation area.

What a great weekend at Build It Live Malvern.

It was lovely to see so many people stop by and chat all things sash windows with us. We also held a workshop on why sash windows aren’t just for period properties, and what to consider when choosing them for different types of homes.

It was great to speak to people planning all kinds of projects, from period renovations to newer homes, and to show how sash windows can suit more homes than many people realise.
