Why do we power harrow before seeding? 🌱

Great playing surfaces are built from the ground up.

As part of the construction process, power harrowing refines the soil, breaking down clods and creating a level, firm seedbed ready for the next stage of the project.

It's a vital part of preparing the ground before new grass is established.

Why do we verti-drain sports pitches?

It's an important part of creating healthy, resilient natural grass playing surfaces.

Verti-draining helps relieve compaction beneath the surface, allowing air, water and nutrients to reach the roots where they're needed most.

This is the first video in our new Constructing Better Playing Fields series, where we'll be sharing some of the specialist work that goes into creating high-quality sports pitches.

Over the past few weeks we've been busy on site at Moor Park and Waverley Park as part of the wider Preston Parks Transformation Project.

Over the coming weeks we'll be taking you behind the scenes of our work on the Preston Parks Transformation Project. Through our new 'Constructing Better Playing Fields' series, we'll explain the specialist construction and drainage techniques that go into creating high-quality natural grass playing surfaces.

It's a hot one on site today at Wythenshawe AFC ☀️🌡

The team are hard at work carrying out renovation work to the pitch following the extremely hot bank holiday weekend.

Today's work's include installing gravel and sand slits to both goal mouth areas and the centre circle, adjacent to the existing drain lines at 1m centres, 300mm deep and 50mm wide, ahead of sand spreading operations.

As part of the renovation works, the goal mouths will also be rebuilt using 3 tonnes of rootzone per mouth to form a crowned surface, helping improve playability and drainage in these high wear areas.

The team will also be carrying out vertidraining, overseeding, alongside spreading fertiliser to encourage healthy recovery and growth 🌱

These work's will help improve surface drainage and overall pitch performance ahead of the new season.

Ground broken 👷‍♂️🚜 We're well underway with a new project today at Moor Park, Preston. Starting with rotavating the ground.

A solid start by the team, with conditions looking spot on for progress over the coming weeks.

More updates to follow as the job develops.

School pitch ready to go 👌

Today Richard and Jack have been at Euxton Primrose Primary School, spreading top dressing sand and verti-draining the pitch.

This helps relive compaction, improve drainage and keep the surface in good condition for the children getting back out on it after the Easter holidays.
