With the sunny Bank Holiday weekend officially over and a short 4-day week ahead, morale is surprisingly high considering most of the team are still recovering from BBQs, beer gardens, and convincing themselves “one more pint” was a sensible idea 🍻☀️

The good news is the sun’s still shining, everyone’s back on site in one piece, and there’s even more smiles around than usual this week — mainly because director Alex has finally started smiling again after receiving the all-clear on our asbestos results 😅

Safe to say there were a few nervous coffees drank while waiting for those results to come back. Alex spent the last few days pacing around like a man waiting for VAR to review a last-minute winner. But thankfully, the call finally came in… ALL CLEAR 🚫☣️✅

Which means we are officially good to crack on with the gym refurbishment project, and the team couldn’t be happier. No more delays, no more “waiting on reports,” and no more Alex stress-staring into the distance wondering if he’d have to become a yoga instructor instead 🧘‍♂️

Now it’s full steam ahead as we get stuck into transforming the space properly. The lads are fired up, the tools are back out, and the only thing getting ripped apart now is the old gym interior 💪🔨

There’s something about a short week that tricks everyone into working twice as fast too, so expectations are high. Either that or everyone’s trying to finish early before the next BBQ invite lands in the group chat.

Going the extra mile is what truly sets you apart from the rest. It’s not always the big things people notice — often it’s the small details that make the biggest impact.

As you can see here, Bob took the time to make the new threshold blend seamlessly with the existing flooring, creating a clean and professional finish. That extra care, patience, and attention to detail is what brings a project together and leaves a lasting impression.

Like any construction project, everything starts off looking smooth… programme running well, lads flying through the work, director smiling for once 😂 …then the unforeseen turns up to remind you who’s really in charge.

This week we hit a bit of a setback after discovering magnesite on site, along with the potential presence of asbestos. As soon as it was identified, it was straight to tools down and site temporarily stopped while everything was investigated and dealt with correctly and safely.

Now for most people, that would be enough to ruin the week… but not our director Alex. You could actually see the stress levels rising in real time — pacing about site, phone glued to his ear, probably aged about 10 years by lunchtime 😅 But credit where it’s due, he got Thomas and the team moving quickly to assess the issue, organise the right people and keep downtime to an absolute minimum.

That’s construction for you though — one minute you’re talking progress and deadlines, the next you’re becoming an expert in minerals and hazardous materials overnight 😂

Massive credit to everyone involved for reacting fast, staying professional and getting things back under control safely. It’s not about getting knocked down, it’s about how quickly you get back up… although Alex might need another coffee or twelve before the end of the week ☕😂

Steady progress continues at our Gouldwells project, with multiple phases of work now advancing simultaneously across the site.

Internally, the first fix electrical installation is now well underway. This stage includes the routing of cabling, installation of back boxes, and preparation of the electrical infrastructure throughout the property ahead of the next stages of the fit-out programme. It’s a key milestone that helps bring the project another step closer to completion.

Externally, excavation works have now commenced as preparations begin for the next phase of development outside the property. Careful coordination between trades and site teams is ensuring works continue efficiently, safely, and in line with programme targets.

It’s great to see the project continuing to take shape, with strong progress being made both inside and out as we move forward into the next stages of construction.

A good catch-up on site today going through the health & safety board, discussing progress, current works, and some of the unforeseen challenges we’ve come across along the way.

No two projects are ever the same, and sometimes you come across things that leave everyone scratching their heads. Today was one of those moments when we uncovered an old cable that nobody could identify. After plenty of guesses, Alex gave his dad, Rob, a call — and within seconds, he knew exactly what it was.

A great reminder that experience and knowledge in this industry are invaluable, and there’s always something new to learn on every project.

Appreciate the teamwork, problem solving, and shared experience that keeps projects moving safely and efficiently forward.

The team have been busy on site preparing and setting out for all of the partition work.

It all starts with the preparation and precision — taking the time to get the laser levels exactly right to ensure everything is perfectly plumb and level from the very beginning. Attention to detail at this stage is key, because once the setting out is correct, the rest of the installation falls into place smoothly and efficiently.

A solid start on this project with plenty more progress to come. Great work from the team as always.
