🔐 A Big Thank You to Mark Santi 🔐
Huge thanks to Mark Santi from Pick Me Locksmith and CLS (Certified Locksmiths & Security) for meeting with his MP and getting a question raised in Parliament 🇬🇧
That’s not a small achievement — it’s a positive step forward.
But let’s be clear about what this is really about.
🚨 The Real Issue
This isn’t about introducing heavy industry regulation.
This is about tackling rogue operators advertising on search engines.
Right now, unvetted individuals can advertise as “locksmiths” online, appear legitimate, and gain access to people’s homes — often charging excessive prices and damaging trust in our profession.
That puts:
🏠 The public at risk
💷 Customers out of pocket
🔐 Genuine locksmiths’ reputations on the line
🏛 The Question Raised
Written Question by Samantha Niblett regarding Locksmiths: Standards
Department for Business and Trade
UIN 106239 – Tabled 15 January 2026
Question:
What steps are being taken to ensure locksmiths meet (a) legal, (b) professional and (c) security standards?
Government Response (summary):
Locksmithing is not statutorily regulated. There are self-regulating trade associations and accreditation schemes. The government keeps the framework under review and monitors concerns raised.
💬 Where We Go From Here
We don’t want unnecessary red tape.
We want search engines and policymakers to recognise the security implications of allowing anyone to advertise as a locksmith without proper vetting.
This is about:
Proper verification for advertisers
Protecting the public
Protecting our trade
Removing rogue traders from paid search
📣 We Need the Locksmith Community
Now is the time to stand together.
We’re asking locksmiths to:
✅ Get behind CLS
✅ Contact your local MP
✅ Use our email templates (we’ve made it simple)
✅ Raise the issue of rogue locksmith advertising
You do not need to be a CLS member.
We will support you and even accompany you to meetings with your MP if needed.
This is about cleaning up online advertising — not regulating good locksmiths out of business.
Let’s protect the public.
Let’s protect our trade.
Let’s be heard. 💪🔐
If you’re ready to take action, share this post, comment or message and we’ll send the templates over.
