After 12 years or so of fitting Viessmann boilers, I finally got the opportunity to fit a Vitodens 200-w system boiler. Another first for me was the use a plate heat exchanger to separate the sealed boiler side from the open vent radiator circuit. New 200 litre unvented cylinder replaced the open vent hot water cylinder. The boiler is controlled by weather compensation making it as efficient as possible. The 7” touchscreen can located at the bottom or the top (like in the picture) of the boiler.

Called out to a L2 fault on an Idea Logic boiler. Had a good idea of the cause of the fault before even opening up the case, but was not expecting to find a copper elbow in the bottom of the combustion chamber. Found many insects but nothing like this. Luckily, the condense has not corroded through the case which would have meant a new boiler.

Milwaukee 12v compressor makes light work of recharging expansion vessels. Shame the installer of this cylinder decided to put it in front of the mains stop c**k and the cold water combination valve (somewhere in the darkness of the corner). Managed to get to stop c**k but the pressure relief of the valve is running water. Customer asked what’s the answer? The answer is drain the heating, the cylinder, disconnect it and move it out of the way. Replumb the stopc**k and the cold water valve in a space that Is easily accessible for operation and servicing.

Having to change an immersion on an unvented cylinder. Very poor design when the immersion is lower than the cold inlet drain off. Will have to siphon off the difference and hope the water level is lower than the immersion when I crack it open. 🙏

Little boiler change I completed this week. Took out an Ideal combi boiler which was corroding, failing to deliver hot water and had no room thermosat. Replaced it with a Viessmann 100-W 35kw combi complete with a Magnaclean, Combimate (a real must to combat scale when you live in Ottery) and an EPH Combipack 4 programmable room thermostat which features Optimum Start Control and is Boiler Plus compliant. The gas pipe run was increased to 28mm copper to within 1.5m of the boiler location. On commissioning, the boiler runs at 65 degrees with a return temperature of 50 Degrees, keeping it condensing efficiently.
