What is structural deflection?
A common misconception is that structural elements remain perfectly straight under load.
This is not true. In fact, beams and other structural elements can bend or sag when forces are applied. This movement is called deflection.
Deflection is not usually a concern unless it exceeds acceptable limits for safety and appearance.
As part of our pre-purchase surveys, we carefully assess signs of excessive deflection and ensure they are clearly documented in our reports.
