We’re excited to announce that OxArch is teaming up with the Ultimate Picture Palace for a new architecture-centred cinema series 🎬

Kicking things off with Mon Oncle (Jacques Tati, 1958)

UPP is currently at risk of closure if the university college that owns the building doesn’t renew its lease - a huge loss for Oxford’s independent cinema scene.

We’d love to see as many of you there as possible to support this incredible local establishment and keep it alive.

We’ve got a second screening coming between final deadlines and the end-of-year exhibition… stay tuned 👀

Hello OxArch.🔵

On Tuesday the 17th, we’re very lucky to have Ricardo Sosa-Mejia, associate partner at Heatherwick, come to Brookes for the next lecture in this semesters series.

Ricardo, who leads the studios future talent programme will spend some time discussing some exciting recent projects that Heatherwick studios has been involved with.

He is very excited to lead a discussion and answer questions. Perhaps offering advice on careers in architecture and the ins and outs of design at Heatherwick Studios.

This event is extra special, as we have also been given the opportunity for up to 45 students (on a first come first served basis) to visit the Heatherwick Studios Making House on Tuesday 24th of March, 14:00-16:00, sign up for this trip will be available at the end of the lecture.

We’re excited to invite you to our next lecture: Resonant Bodies in Spatiosonic Fields with Dr Emma-Kate Matthew, an architect, composer, musician and researcher whose work explores the relationship between sound, space, and architecture.

Her practice investigates how sonic experiences shape spatial perception, combining architecture, digital art, and music through experimental audio-visual work and instrument design. This is a unique opportunity to see how architectural thinking expands beyond buildings into performance, technology, and sensory experience.

Hello OxArch!!😆

We are incredibly honoured and very lucky to welcome Hélène Binet to our lecture series.
Hélène Binet is one of the leading architectural photographers in the world. Internationally renowned, she is best known for her work with architects such as Daniel Libeskind, Peter Zumthor, Zaha Hadid and Diller Scofidio + Renfro, and has published books documenting the work of several major architects. For decades, her images have shaped how architecture is seen, understood and remembered globally.

Having someone of this calibre speak at OxArch is a rare opportunity. If you’re interested in architecture, representation, light, atmosphere, or how space is truly perceived.

In her talk, Light, Space and the Act of Looking, she will reflect on photography as a way of reading and interpreting architecture, exploring how light, shadow, framing and material reveal the deeper presence of space.

This lecture will explore how architects work within historic environments: balancing heritage, creativity, and technical care, and how a deep understanding of context can lead to thoughtful, contemporary design responses.

📣Next OxArch Lecture, this Monday!

We’re excited to welcome Kitty Byrne, Senior Architect at Hopkins Architects, for a talk on The Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, one of Oxford’s most ambitious and innovative recent projects.

The lecture will explore the vision and brief behind the building, key design ideas, and how advanced tools like BIM, VR, and modern construction methods shaped the project. Kitty will also discuss the building’s sustainable credentials, including its role as England’s largest Passivhaus building and the world’s first Passivhaus concert hall.

Welcome back! We hope you all had a great break and are feeling refreshed and ready for the second semester. We’re really looking forward to seeing everyone back in studio and reconnecting.
This semester, OxArch has lots more to offer, starting with our first lecture of the term.

We’re delighted to share our upcoming lecture with Emaad Damda, Associate at Tuckey Design Studio, titled “It All Starts with Clay.” The talk will explore rammed earth architecture and give insight into how a project comes together, from material understanding to construction on site.
