This lovely Oxfordshire kitchen extension is one of the projects which show that small extensions and careful changes can make a huge difference to a property. The original house design meant that there was very little interface with the client’s garden. Additionally there was no covering for the entrance to the annexe flat above the garage. We designed a small kitchen extension at the rear, and a veranda-style covering the rear. [ 181 more words ]

My general response to this would generally be ‘often - initially’. But in building terms the truism ‘pay cheap, pay twice’ very much holds good. We currently have two projects running which require serious care and attention in order get the steelwork right. One contractor (McCabe Construction) used the detailing service of Bob Rich at B&M fabricators. The process was easy as Bob is a genius at fabrication drawings - any areas where there had been misunderstanding from the drawings were, within a few hours, ironed out between the engineers THB Consulting, the builder McCabe Construction, PPA Architecture and the fabricator B&M. The building process can be easiest and as stress-free as possible if you use the right contractor. Your house is usually the most important asset you own, treat it with care and it will treat you well.

The client’s intention was to achieve a light, bright and open kitchen area, as the existing kitchen was a small dark galley. This project is the second repeat commission from a previous client for PPA Architecture and the contractor. In a sensitive conservation area location, the intention is to provide a two storey rear extension adjacent to, on one side, a two storey extension and on the other a courtyard. The project is on a tight deadline and has been through a number of iterations, though through negotiation with the conservation and planning officers it is progressing through the planning process.
