I came across this chimney last week. The mortar between the bricks has washed away completely in places, the air brick on the back side of the chimney is clearly visible through the gaps. It is structurally unstable in this condition so the owner was advised to have it rebuilt as soon as possible. I’m pleased this was noticed before it collapsed on the thatch.

I have just received these lovely photos of the cottage I have recently finished in Buckinghamshire.

Doug is a writer, he created and wrote Midsummer Murders and has also written episodes for Howard’s Way, Bergerac, Lovejoy and even Z-Cars.

He and his wife asked me to make a couple of theatre masks to decorate the roof. They finished the decoration on the masks themselves including surgical mouth covers! Very topical and an accurate reflection of their sense of humour.

Thank you to Sandra for this lovely email after I finished the new ridge on her cottage a couple of weeks ago.

Shaun just replaced the ridge on my cottage. He was always very professional, kept to the timescale initially given, cleaned up the area around the cottage at the end of every day and, most importantly, did a superb job! Every day neighbours in the village are coming up to say how good the new ridge looks. Shaun (and Holly, his lovely spaniel) were a pleasure to have working on the cottage. I would unreservedly recommend Shaun and will definitely be asking him to fit the re-thatch of the cottage into his schedule when it is due.

Just a little repair to start off the day to keep this roof in tip-top condition.

Both of these cottages were burned down several years ago. The local Chinese take away/restaurant was burning rubbish in their back yard and the embers blew down the road landing on the thatch. I re-thatched both properties and the interior was re-furbished by the insurance company, the rebuild included a complete new roof structure with fire boarding underneath the thatch this time!

Another stunning Buckinghamshire cottage re-ridged and finished in the sun.

I am so pleased when I am invited back to work on customers roofs. I re-thatched this cottage in 2005, the ridge has lasted an amazing 13/14 years.
