🌿A bird’s life can be a bit difficult during the winter months, so here a reminder to lend them a helping hand!🌿

The end of October is a great time to start thinking about the ways that birds will need some help all throughout the winter. You may have old sunflower heads, teasles, seeds from rosehips and berries from ivy in your garden. The birds will love all of these.

However, if you haven’t got a natural source of food, you can provide high-fat, high-energy foods like suet, sunflower hearts, and peanuts consistently from November to April.

Make sure you clean your bird feeders and water baths at least once a week!

🌿The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has predicted record sightings of mushrooms and toadstools across the UK this autumn.🌿

Prolonged hot weather and drought, followed by a wet autumn had provided ideal conditions for fungi to flourish.

The combination of damp autumn soil and falling leaves causes mushrooms to push through the forest floor.

With around 15,000 species in the UK, there are plenty to spot. Look out for iconic species like the bright red fly agaric, puffballs, and bracket fungi growing on older woodland trees. 🍄

🌱Seeds can be saved from many trees, shrubs, perennials, aquatic plants, alpines, annuals, biennials, bulbous plants, ornamental grasses vegetables and herbs.🌱

Look for seed pods or heads that have changed colour from green to brown, tan, or black.

Store cleaned seeds in paper envelopes inside a sealed, airtight container with a silica gel packet.

But it’s important to note:

Leaving some plants standing until spring can make a real difference to local wildlife. Seed heads provide an important food source for birds throughout the colder months, while many insects use the stems and heads as shelter.

Some plants will self-seed on their own accord, which eventually germinate in-situ, and provide you with baby plants. But other plants may require a helping hand.

🌿Gardens can support our mental wellbeing in so many ways.🌿

World Mental Health Day is an opportunity to meaningfully engage with people with lived experience of mental health conditions.

Around one in four people per year in England experience a mental health problem of some kind, according to Mind.

Gardens are special spaces. They can improve our wellbeing in many ways, helping us feel calm or giving a sense of purpose.

When designing our gardens it’s important for us to think about the wellbeing of both people and nature.

Providing a place to sit and reflect, along with plants specifically chosen for texture, colour, sent and sound can stimulate the sense and calm the nervous system. By placing a small fountain or trickling water near to a seating area, can support and calm our busy thoughts.

Whether you are looking to create a party garden for entertaining or not, a little spot which can provide a relaxing and tranquil environment, is just as important too.

When designing this garden, we ensured it catered to relaxation, dining, and social gatherings while maintaining a sleek, modern aesthetic, with an all-year access.

One of many beautiful features is the sleek outdoor bar setup, complete with high stools and a built-in mini fridge, allowing the client and their guests to enjoy refreshments without leaving the outdoor area.
