Friends of Telscombe Tye The Friends of Telscombe Tye Conservation Group brings together people who want to protect and enhance the natural environment of Telscombe Tye.

(Currently suspended as a group but still interested in the Tye). Telscombe Tye remains one of the few places on the South Downs, west of Seaford, where the Downs landscape meets the sea. If you live in and around the area and use and enjoy the Tye on a regular basis, whether for dog walking, exercise or just to enjoy the open space.

Telscombe Tye - Issues and Incidents

Hi All - I was recently co-opted as a Town Councillor, and am trying to help with the ongoing work to improve the management of the Tye. I've been able to speak to a lot of people and hear indivdual stories about isssues and incidents they have had or seen on the Tye.

However to understand the scale and nature of the problems we have around Telscombe Tye, I'd like to try and collect as much data as possible about previous incidents.

CAN YOU HELP?

If you have been involved or witnessed an issue or incident on the Tye, could you take the time to complete this short form?

https://forms.office.com/e/ZJ5SvSArYT

Incidents could include dog fouling, trail bikes (scramblers), horses galloping, sheep worrying, fly tipping, over grazing, abusive behaviour from other the users etc. In other words anything which is disruptive to residents/commoners peaceful use of the Tye.

Information will be treated in confidence, and will help build a picture around areas of concern so that I can look to develop long term solutions.

This form is to collect historical data on the issues and incidents which have affected residents and users of Telscombe Tye, to provide insight into the areas which require work to resolve them.   This includes, but is not limited to incidents such as: Driving/Scramblers etc on the Tye an...

Next weekend it's the RSPB Love Nature Big Garden Birdwatch. Hopefully you've been keeping your feeders and birdbaths topped up but from previous experience the birds know when it's BGB and disappear!

If you don't have a garden you can also do BGB in your local park or green space or join the Big Schools Birdwatch. You never know what might turn up.

It’s fun, free and for everyone. Join in 28-30 January 2022

After a long, very long, period of inactivity in the group. We're looking at restarting the group, especially as more of us are getting out and about and taking more interest in caring for the environment.

This group was originally created to look after the Tye which involved a number of tasks and activities such as scrub clearance, litter picks, plant and wildlife surveys, and events.

We'll be looking to start up a calendar of tasks again, covid restrictions permitting. At this stage we just want to gauge people's level of interest and enthusiasm. If you're interested in getting involved, drop your name below.

Please be aware skylarks are nesting on the Tye.

There are several pairs around. They nest in the longer grass areas, mostly at the top of the Tye, to the left and right of the funeral track running up from the coast road. There are often a few that nest on the lower part of the Tye, above the ridge towards Gorham Way.

If possible, please keep to the paths and keep your dogs on leads where skylarks are nesting.

Thank you.

Walked up to the Tye e-Piece at the weekend. It's become very overgrown as it's now a few years since we did any path or scrub clearance over there.

Hopefully there will still be wildflowers coming up if the brambles don't take over.
