Small extension, big difference 👌

We have recently completed this lean-to extension in Pembroke for a client who wanted to add a ground-floor shower room and toilet to their home.

A straightforward addition, but one that makes a huge difference to the practicality and future use of the property.

The client was fantastic to work with from start to finish, which always makes the job that much more enjoyable.

Good business relationships should work both ways.

At Hay Construct, we’ve always tried to support the same suppliers, subcontractors and local businesses wherever we can. We believe in loyalty, repeat business and building long-term working relationships.

Going forward, we want to work more closely with businesses who feel the same way.

We don’t just want to continually use the same companies — we want to build relationships where support goes both ways. Whether that’s recommending each other, using each other’s services, passing work across or simply helping one another grow.

We’ll be reviewing who we work with across our projects and looking to build stronger partnerships with people and businesses who value loyalty, communication and mutual support.

There’s plenty of work out there for good local businesses, and we’d much rather grow alongside companies who want to work together than simply operate as another name on a supplier list.

Garage renovation completed in Hakin ✅

Another tired space brought back to life and made far more practical for the client.

Works included:

* New roof timbers
* New box profile roof sheets
* New garage door
* New anthracite uPVC rear door and window
* New internal lighting
* New power sockets

A simple renovation, but a big improvement to the overall look, security and usability of the garage.

Another renovation project moving forward nicely in Sageston 👌

The structural phase is now complete, with 5 steel beams installed, bolted and secured, new window openings formed and the new aluminium bifold doors now in place.

Next up, the plasterers are due in tomorrow, with herringbone LVT flooring going down shortly after and the new kitchen arriving soon.

This is the stage where the transformation really starts to come together.

Keep your eyes peeled for the finished result on this one — it’s going to look completely different.

A bit of an update from Hay Construct.

Over the years of running the business, we’ve had some extremely busy periods and some quieter ones too.

Like many businesses, we’ve had to adapt along the way — diversifying to keep staff employed, keep cashflow moving and create different income streams within the business.

As many of you will know, we moved into a larger premises in Pembroke Dock to help us grow and develop. During that time we’ve built modular lodges and garden rooms, produced barrels and benches, and even opened a coffee shop on site.

We’ve learned a huge amount from all of it.

However, with the continued rise in business rates, energy costs and the general cost of employing people and running a business, we’ve made the decision to simplify things and go back to what we know best:

Construction.

Over the next few months we’ll be leaving our current premises at the Dockyard in Pembroke Dock and moving into a smaller unit, which is yet to be confirmed.

Our modular builds and barrel production will stop with immediate effect, allowing us to focus fully on:

New Builds
Extensions
Renovations
Conversions
Domestic & Commercial Construction

We’ll also continue producing our timber benches alongside the construction side of the business.

I’d like to say a genuine thank you to everyone who has supported Hay Construct over the years — our customers, suppliers, subcontractors, staff and everyone who has recommended us.

We’re proud of how far the business has come, and we’re looking forward to the next chapter with a much clearer focus.

Hay Construct — back to what we do best.

Roof completed in Pembroke

This project was originally meant to be a partial slate replacement with some alterations to the valleys, but as is often the case with older properties, once we started stripping the roof back we uncovered a much bigger issue.

The existing roof structure was in poor condition, with rotten timbers, inadequate fixings and areas that simply weren’t safe to leave in place.

After speaking with the client and explaining exactly what we had found, she agreed that the right decision was to proceed with a full replacement.

That meant removing the entire roof structure and rebuilding it properly.

Of course, an unexpected change of this scale has a knock-on effect on our programme for other projects, but one thing we won’t do is leave a started job exposed or unattended.

The team worked overtime to get the new roof back to a safe, secure and watertight condition as quickly as possible.

We’ve just got a few minor finishing items to complete once the scaffold comes down, but most importantly, we’ve got another happy customer and a roof that’s now built to last.

A huge well done to the team for pushing through and getting this one over the line.
