A small preview of the work we've been carrying out at .barn.

Office lighting, automatically activated with presence detection. Each light is individually dimmable and able to use the full spectrum of white light to provide a warmer, more relaxed environment for meetings or a cooler, sharper light while working.
Each light fitting can also be given a unique colour to turn the office into a decorative feature when viewed externally from across the barn, transforming the room into much more than a simple workspace.

We were recently asked by a client if we could design a system to allow them to remotely control and monitor the heating systems in their second home/holiday lets in the Lakes.

Having discussed the various systems available it was agreed that a Loxone UK system was the one to proceed with as it would continue to operate regardless of whether the WiFi at the properties was working, can be added to in future to provide additional monitoring and functionality.
We integrated two properties, four different heating systems and two hot water systems to allow them to remotely monitor and adjust temperatures and scheduling. With one button in the app the central heating demand is reduced to frost protection temperatures, the hot water temperatures are reduced to 10⁰C, as well as night storage heating and electric underfloor heating being switched off. The same single button can then be used to turn all these systems back on before their arrival, ensuring a comfortable stay.

By using Loxone's Air technology we ensured no decorating was required, showcasing it's ability in retrofit applications and pricing that home/building automation is fully scalable. Significant energy savings are expected, reducing the running costs of the property and providing significant environmental and economic benefits.

Following installation we tailored the interface of the app alongside the client to make it suit their requirements and ensuring it was intuitive and simple to use to provide maximum convenience.

Supplies to two shepherds huts installed recently, with room for expansion, at the foot of Kirkstone Pass. Over a tonne of cable, 10.8 metres of earth rods, three enclosures fabricated to accept their required connections and countless stunning views.

Another diverse week this week - a sauna connection on the shore of Coniston, renewing the lighting and upgrading the heating in a 250 year old chapel, installing supplies to commercial pizza ovens and beginning the overhaul of lighting in a warehouse to increase light output while lowering energy costs

Over the last 10 days it’s been fantastic to see so many of our customers’ businesses reopening and returning to some sense of normality. It’s also been brilliant to follow the opening of .co.uk.

We provided a completely new electrical installation, functional and decorative lighting, CCTV, networking, door access control and sound system - all designed to be low maintenance, effective and match the surrounding environment. All cabling was installed within the building fabric on the ground floor, with steel conduit used extensively on the first floor against the bare sandstone to create an “industrial” aesthetic to compliment the building’s features, the use of steel conduit and stainless steel switchgear on the door access system at the bottom of the stairs helped to provide a blend between the two areas and provide a smooth, subtle transition.

As ever it was a pleasure to work with the Finnmark team on this project.

Having gone to connect the heater to circuit that had been installed by another electrician the cabling was found to be undersized, have inaccessible non-mechanical joints and be inadequately protected against mechanical damage for a building constructed in this way. We had the circuit rewired without any additional damage to the fabric of the building, heater installed and everything tested and certified within a day.

Derbyshire's stunning Hope Valley is the setting for this luxurious and truly authentic bespoke Finnish sauna installed into part of an old mill constructed in 1785...

It was a privilege to have the chance to restore these antique, hand carved lights lately. Believed to originate from California, they had both suffered from years in storage and some previous repair work. They were stripped down, delicately cleaned and rewired ready to reclaim their position as pride of place in somebody’s home and to have the carpenter’s craftsmanship admired for many more years to come.

Exterior/security lighting completed this week for a national traffic management firm. All cabling installed to comply with UV resistance requirements and movement detection suitable for 24 hour usage
