So what can we do to reduce our energy use and try to make these outrageous energy price hikes less costly?
Here are a few suggestions to look at.
1) Check your light fittings and make sure they are all fitted with energy efficient LED lamps (and before you ask compact fluorescent lamps are less efficient than LED)
A 4W LED lamp can provide the same light output as a 40W incandescent lamp and a 50W LED floodlight is as bright as a 500W halogen (and do you really need a 50W a 30W or even a 20W would be adequate)
Check those recessed downlights and surface spotlights, they are normally fitted with 50W halogen lamps they can be replaced with LED lamps that are as bright but only use a tenth of the energy.
2) Make sure the timers on direct acting heaters are set for the times you need them and maybe turn the thermostat down a notch (or two)
3) If you heat your water using Electricity, check that the water isn't too hot and if it is get the thermostat checked or turned down. Also check the insulation jacket on the tank is fully fitted, a really warm airing cupboard means its wasting heat!
4) Electric showers use a lot of energy so don't switch it on and leave it running while you get ready to jump in, make it quick and switch off as soon as you are finished- oh and by the way if you are using it to wash your hair only, switch off when shampooing π
5) we all know about filling kettles with only as much water as we need but did you know that heating water with gas kettle is cheaper than with electric? AND you get a bit of additional warmth as well!
6) Batch cooking is the suggestion but a Microwave is an even cheaper way of cooking!
7) And finally, the best energy saving methods are the light switch and the off switch ...
If it's not needed switch it off
And when you leave the room turn the light off
Stay safe keep warm and if you need help, we are here for youπ
