In & Out.

It’s been a season of consistently completing high standard repointing work over the summer. A total credit to the team who know exactly how to deliver a quality result, every time.

It doesn’t always need to be fancy work that gets the loudest applauds, sometimes delivering the basics consistently gets the recognition. I think be considered good at anything you need to deliver on the basics most of the time.

The complex projects will come and test us, they’re in the pipeline, but for now we’re doing well keeping things simple and delivering our clients expectations throughout Perthshire.

Full gable end gable end repointed and paint removal.

The mortar in the gable before we arrived was easily the hardest cement based material we have encountered to date! It was also almost painted on the stone and painted over after meaning every bit of cement and paint had to be chipped off manually.
A good result, all things considered!

A second post of Dunsinane Farm House after revisiting and seeing the project nearing completion!

From what was effectively a ruin, the building has been transformed into a home.

Our scope of works was to focus on the front facade of the building. We easily carried out over 100 indents throughout, whille also trying to maintain the character and rusticity of an old estate house - this meant don’t indent everything you see 😅
The portico was almost fully replaced as well as every window band surround and most corners of the building.
I have included one of the worst affected areas that were addressed.
There were several areas of strip and rebuild and Watscliff stone supplied and fitted throughout.

💭 Identity

I recently had a conversation with Taylor Talks Trades where he asked me ‘what are you struggling most with in building your business?’

Almost immediately i had the answer.
The identity shift needed as a trade business owner/ operator to go from good on the tools to trying to run a company is hardly ever spoken about and I often find it a challenge to ignore it.

Do I put all my energy into becoming the best tradesman I can or do I try and become an entrepreneur business owner with teams, systems and processes?

I reflected on how i leave some mornings dressed smart for job visits and quotes feeling like a business owner, but then by the afternoon I’m back into my work gear covered in dust and mortar 😂

I guess that’s the beauty of small buisness and I think 95% of trade business operators will resonate with that to some degree.

Ultimately, it comes down to choices and deciding what I really want from my career and life. Both paths are hard and have their pros & cons.
I enjoy being a stonemason and working physically hard, as much as I’m starting to enjoy the challenge of trying to scale.
