Here's one of our next projects. This is the kind of thing that can happen without a decent safety edge. This door was lowered onto the tailgate of a truck resulting in a major problem. Expecting a hefty expense for a new door, I arrived and explained we can fix it. That's looking at being around a 70% saving on a new door and includes an upgrade to a cutting edge technology new safety edge. Door size approximately 3.5 x 3mtrs.

Up date. The repair didn't go as smoothly as hoped with an unnoticed problem when the anti drop device caused further issues. That said, replacement parts were sourced and replaced, and the door is now fully up and running as it should.

This repair saved the customer around £2,000 on the advice of other companies. Just one of the reasons we enjoy doing what we can.

Roller Garage Doors, a quick guide.

There are basically two styles and 4 fitting options.
Dealing with styles first, these are 55 and 77mm referring to the width of the horizontal strips.
The 55mm often sold as an entry level budget, is mostly for very narrow or low headroom openings. Something like a sectional garage style often used by councils many moons ago. In honesty these don't offer much resistance to break-in attempts and not one we recommend.
The 77mm is increased both in width and thickness, thicknesses ranging from 12 to 18mm. 18mm x 77mm is the industry standard and these, although varying by manufacturer, are much more secure.

Security differences - there are numerous things to consider here as they range from the size of the guides (the track the door travels up and down in), through the tube and locking devices (how the curtain rolls and unrolls), and the quality of the control system (switches or remotes)

A recent addition to the line-up is side hung/hinged garage doors. These are becoming more popular due to modern cars seldom fitting in garages anymore so they become more like storage areas.

Servicing and repairs can be done at a fraction of the cost of a new door. Roller doors for instance are made up of dozens of individual parts. Even damage to the front curtain can be reduced to the number of slats (horizontal sections) needing replacement. Often far cheaper than a whole new curtain - or complete door which I have known to be sold as the only solution.
