Optical illusion on the facade! 👁️ Take a look at these two visualisations. They show exactly the same building and the same door size, but the visual effect is completely different.

Choosing the pattern on the door leaf is a clever tool that allows us to shape the proportions of the entire entrance. How does it work in practice?

🔸 Vertical lines elongate
Vertical routing and long, slim glazing make our eyes automatically wander upwards. Thanks to this trick, the doors - and with them the whole house - appear optically taller and slimmer. It's a great trick for low, single-storey buildings to which we want to add visual height.

🔸 Horizontal lines widen
Wide, horizontal layouts "stretch" the entrance to the sides. In this case, the eye wanders left and right, making the entrance area seem wider, more massive, and more firmly grounded. Use this technique for very narrow porches or vestibules to optically open up and enlarge the space. It's also an excellent choice when we want to emphasise the geometric, modern, and solid character of the building.

One simple detail can completely change the perception of the facade. With standard door dimensions, the choice of pattern is of course a matter of preference, but being aware of these optical tricks, you can get the very best out of your home's design.

August is a unique month. During the day, the sun can still significantly heat up the facade, and at night, the temperature begins to drop noticeably. For us, it's a pleasant relief, but for windows and front doors - it's a real endurance test!

You can't cheat physics: materials expand under the influence of heat, and when it gets cooler - they contract. This is most strongly felt by doors and windows in dark colours, especially those fitted on the south-facing side.

What should you look out for during this transitional period?

🔸 Slight resistance when closing - if your front doors or windows close a bit harder than usual on a hot afternoon, this is generally a natural effect of the material "working". However, if the problem doesn't disappear after the night-time cooling, or if the leaf is clearly rubbing against the frame, it's a sign that a minor hinge adjustment is needed.
🔸 Morning water on the panes - large temperature differences between a warm day and a cool night create ideal conditions for condensation. If you see condensed water vapour on the glass in the morning, it's a reminder to ensure proper air circulation in the house. It's worth airing the rooms more often and remembering to use micro-ventilation.
🔸 Condition of the seals after the heat - the harsh summer sun can dry out the seals. The end of summer is a great time to check their condition and wipe them with a special seal lubricant (or technical petroleum jelly/silicone grease). This will help them retain their elasticity before the autumn rains arrive.

Another successful makeover! 🏡

This time, we replaced worn-out white doors featuring large glass panels with a modern model in a beautiful, warm wood shade, broken up by bold black details. The visual change is huge and has refreshed the entire facade, but this project was about something more.

Notice the difference in the structure. In the old model, we were dealing with large panes of glass. In the new version, we opted for a massive, much more solid door leaf construction. We replaced the large windows with a slim sidelight and narrow glazing within the door itself - both using frosted glass.

What did the homeowners gain from this replacement?

🔸 Security - a solid, modern structure and reduced glass area provide a more effective barrier against uninvited guests and peace of mind every day.
🔸 Privacy - daylight still enters the hallway, but the frosted glass completely cuts the interior off from the view of people outside.
🔸 Modern design - a timeless wood pattern combined with a black handle, lock, and decorative detailing is a pairing that gives the entrance an elegant, orderly character.

A comprehensive makeover in Sutton! 🏡✨

We recently had the pleasure of replacing the doors and windows throughout Mr Zbigniew's home. What solutions did we use?

🔸 On the outside, pure modernity: Erkado front doors and windows in an elegant anthracite colour.
🔸 Inside, we fitted beautiful doors tailored to the interior style. We used a non-rebated (flush) system, and the pure white of the door leaves is broken up by bold, black detailing and hardware, creating a fantastic, minimalist effect.

💡 What is a non-rebated system?
It's a solution where the hinges are completely hidden within the structure, and the closed door leaf forms a perfectly flat surface with the frame. Instead of a traditional "step" on the edge, we get a cohesive, smooth surface.

What are its biggest advantages?
- The lack of visible hinges and edges makes the doors look incredibly modern and elegant.
- Interior harmony - flush doors do not disrupt the wall surface, which visually tidies up and opens the space.
- The absence of the characteristic step makes it easier to keep the frame and leaf clean.

We typically don't pay attention to them until we are faced with choosing new doors, or until we hear a question about them from a curious toddler intently observing their surroundings. 😉🧒 The circles, grilles, or cut-outs at the very bottom of a bathroom door are a technical necessity, without which the ventilation stops functioning properly.

The bathroom generates the most moisture in the house. The ventilation grille near the ceiling extracts water vapour, but this process will only work if fresh air enters the room. Installing airtight doors blocks this circulation.

A lack of proper circulation is visible almost immediately. The mirror stays steamed up for a long time after a bath, the air feels stuffy, and after a while, mould begins to appear on the walls and grout.

What are the most commonly used solutions?

🔸 Ventilation undercut - the door leaf is simply shorter, which creates a narrow gap between the door and the floor. This is currently the most popular, minimalist, and least conspicuous option.

🔸 Ventilation sleeves - round or square holes at the bottom of the leaf, usually finished with covers matched to the colour of the handles and hinges.

🔸 Ventilation grille - a traditional solution fitted in the lower part of the door, which provides the maximum airflow.

The choice of a specific solution depends on visual preferences, but having one of them is essential for quickly removing moisture from the bathroom. ✔

Here is another of our installations - a 10/10 transformation! ✨

Although both models feature a warm, wooden colour scheme, the new entrance brings a completely different style. Classic mouldings have given way to modern minimalism, adding lightness and elegance to the property.

The smooth surface of the door leaf perfectly fits current architectural trends, while the bold black details (e.g., decorative appliqué, letterbox, and pull handle) give the entire entrance an industrial, modern edge. The mirror-effect glass in the sidelight provides a fantastic visual effect while protecting the household's privacy. 🏡

In today's installation, you can see how the new door has warmed up the entrance and given it a cosy feel. Replacing the previous white door with a modern model in a natural wood shade was an absolute hit. 🪵🏡

The warm, wooden finish fantastically breaks up the cool grey of the facade, making the house instantly feel more cosy and inviting. Meanwhile, the bold black accents – the wide vertical panel, modern pull handle, and subtle horizontal glazing – give the entire entrance an industrial, highly modern character.

Properly selected joinery can become the main feature and completely refresh the look of the facade. But great looks aren't everything! With the new door, the household has also gained excellent thermal and acoustic insulation. This means a warmer hallway, lower heating bills, and a blissful silence that leaves the street noise right at the threshold. It’s worth remembering that beneath this cosy, wooden finish lies a solid, reliable structure.
