Now that Lennon has finished his first year at college and his second year with us he got to do a couple of little projects all by himself to show off how he is getting on.

He has built a new test rig for the workshop that we can all use to test various things using different voltages in a safe and efficient manner.

He also carried out his first consumer board swap and the testing of a domestic property.

I’m really impressed with the quality of that couple of projects but not that surprised going by his usual keen approach to his day to day work.

We are all really proud of him here at JWE and know he will continue to do as well with the remainder of his apprenticeship.⚡️

⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️LEF Peterhead⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️

Now that LEF (Lerwick engineers and fabricators) have expanded their operations in to Peterhead they were on the look out for alterations to the building they have rented on Sea gate.

It was a blast from the past for me as I had never been inside since it was still Stickers (Smith) engineers many moons ago, unfortunately most of the internal wiring was still as I’d last seen it.

A fresh start was decided to be the only option so it was stripped back and everything required to facilitate the potential of 7 welding stations running at full capacity at a time with a new office, canteen, toilets etc. added as well.

⚡️G & J Jacks Fraserburgh - 198kw Solar Panel Installation⚡️

We have been so busy recently that we haven’t had a chance to share some of our recent big projects.

G&J Jacks is one of our biggest customers, day to day we take care of all electrical breakdowns along with installing new systems and upgrades, this job however was to install a very large solar system.

This system included 360x 550watt, 2.3meter long by 1.2m wide solar panels on the roof to provide DC power to 3x 60kw inverters at the plant room. All south facing parts of the buildings roof is now covered with solar panels to provide as much power to assist them with their high grid usage with running two big ice machines, 4 big chill plants along with lots of machinery and General power.

On this job we put down 1250 brackets on the roof, using 3000 teck head screws and put 1250 clamps onto those brackets to hold the panels to the brackets. We fabricated and mounted a mix of 4” and 9” cable tray for the cables, run 2150m of DC solar cable back to the buildings plant room. This solar system will assist with providing 30% of their usage by solar. The system should be paid off within 4.5 years if the electricity price does not rise in those years, if so then it will pay back quicker than that.

This job was 12 hour shifts Monday to Friday and lasted 6 weeks, 3 men for 4 weeks then 2 men for 2 weeks. We just got all the outside work done in time for the winter storms starting whilst we did the internal containment, cabling through the building and wiring in the plant room during the bad weather.

Thank you to Steve Andrews at GRE Energy Training for the week training in Dundee back in May.

⚡️Northbay Pelagic Peterhead - Electrical Installation Condition Report⚡️

We have been so busy recently that we haven’t had a chance to share some of our recent big projects.

Northbay Pelagic is one of our biggest customers, day to day we take care of all electrical breakdowns along with installing new systems and upgrades, But this job was to carry out and provide certification to state that all electrics are in good and safe condition for insurance purposes.

This job was our biggest “EICR” to date as Northbay Pelagic Peterhead is the biggest physical size of fish processing factory in Scotland and possibly the UK. There were 61 consumer units, ranging from Big panel boards to big switchboards to small consumer units. The report was 327 pages long (Average home is a 5 page report) and we tested over 900 circuits altogether.

This job was 12 hour shifts Monday to Friday for 2 men and lasted 7 weeks from start of may until almost end of june.

⚡️Ness Energy Project - Altens Aberdeen ⚡️

We have been so busy recently that we haven’t had a chance to share some of our recent big projects.

This job had 10 different jobs within the big job we had through in Altens Aberdeen sub contracted by Johnson Controls. The job consisted of fabricating and installing containment for ventilation and heating systems in 10 different areas of the huge building! We also ran all the cables, wired all the panels and field ends of the cables, tested and commissioned the systems along side the refrigeration engineers.

This job was 12 hour shifts Monday to Friday for 3 men and lasted from Mid July last year until the start February this year. Being just over half a year this has been our longest project so far. We worked through all seasons getting great days but also cold windy ones being minus temperatures at around 135meters up near the roof. There was a lot of hard graft involved with this job like carrying unistrut and cable tray up 10 levels which was around 30 flights of steps. We used just shy of 500m of cable tray and just over 3500m of cable on this job altogether.

Due to a planned power outage tomorrow I added a changeover switch so that this beast can run off of a generator.
Cuts through thick steel like its butter 💪🏻
