Boiler breakdowns are coming in thick and fast!

We can’t stress enough the importance of a thorough yearly boiler and system inspection. This is not 20 min rubbish currently adopted by the large Gas companies.
Most breakdowns are due to poor servicing practices. Flat expansion vessels and blocked condensate traps are the most popular issues which are easily solved but should be checked on the service to avoid these nuisance breakdowns.
Blocked heat exchangers are becoming more common on the modern boilers as they are rarely cleaned! These are Expenses repairs or on occasion new boilers!

We’re almost in the throes of Autumn, boilers and central heating systems are about to be asked to perform tirelessly for hours a day.

Most breakdown we’ve attended recently is attributed to poor maintenance and most of these boilers have had the splash and dash boiler service.
Boiler manufacturers do not approve these maintenance practices and provide a Service procedure list to be carried out yearly and bi-yearly, helping keep the boiler in tip top shape and protecting the long warranties manufacturer are now providing.

Busy time over the last few weeks fixing boilers and central heating systems. I’ve not had a breather to refresh the face book page!
Below photos are from a couple of today’s breakdowns.
One poor customer had their LPG gas bottles stolen and the hoses cut
Then onto a breakdown a day after a 3rd party boiler service. The customer called me to take a look as the boiler was locking out since the service, the findings are quite shocking! The boiler was in a mess, multi safety issues missed including perished burner seal (immediately dangerous) blocked and leaking condensate trap and flue cap missing!!! Blocked baffles and heat exchanger suffocating the burner causing lockout. Now all fixed, clean and safe.
We’re now opening the diary for annual services and central heating health checks on all Gas appliances including LPG. Any questions please get in touch.

There’s still a few open flue boiler out and about. If you think you may have a open flue appliance it’s essential to have the appliances serviced yearly with thorough checks to flue/vent and appliances safety controls along with a good old fashioned clean with a brush and hoover!

Very busy over Easter weekend, from emergency boiler changes, faulty boilers, water leaks ,incorrectly wired central heating systems to blocked underfloor heating!
Most of these faults are caused by poor maintenance and over a number of year cause serious damage leading to extensive and expensive repairs!

Simple tests checking the central heatings water health and acting on the results can massively reduce future breakdowns, along side with yearly boiler service.

With the run up to Christmas this Power-flue Gas AGA was making quite the noise. As usual with the Power-flue AGA the fan and flue system has never been cleaned and oiled on previous services. After a good thorough service this AGA is running quiet,clean,safe and not cutting out before reaching desired temperature.
