My poor, newly planted fuchsia took a hammering this week in all that brutal sunshine! One cool day to recover, and she's back up again.

Fuchsias are great bedding for shady areas as they're not partial to too much sunshine. This one does get a fair bit of sun in the morning, then gone in the afternoon, and she'll love it here going forward. She just got unlucky with the timing.

Plants that have only recently gone in need extra care and attention to water, especially in these hot conditions, as they're trying to establish new root systems as well as just survive.

This Deutzia had a really hard time when she was moved and given a hard prune all at the same time! Then followed a long, dry year, and I was tempted to give up on her.

I'm so glad I didn't, a few years of tender love and care, and look at her now! And I learned a valuable lesson in the process, I won't be so ruthless again!

Great shrub for the bees. They absolutely love this one. You can hear them all buzzing before you even see them.

When I found this rose, it was in its dormant season, so it had no flowers, but it did have a label, Rose 'Darcy Bussell'.

Now my imagination pictured a very sweet, wishy washy, wouldn't say boo to a goose kind of thing. How wrong I was! She's hot and vibrant and certainly not prepared to fade into the background. Taking centre stage in the beds at the minute and doing a wonderful job, what a cracker!

Here's a buttercup that will never let you down!

Another wild plant steeped in folklore. One is a tale of a greedy miser who refused to share his gold with the fairies. To teach him a lesson, they cut a hole in his money sack, and where it fell, it turned into buttercups!

They're in full swing now, so please enjoy them.

It's time to find out if you like butter!

Continuing on the theme of dangerous plants, this is hogweed. This plant contains toxic sap that reacts with sunlight and causes burning of the skin. Please, if you're removing any, be sure to wear gloves and try not to break the stems.

If you see a large version of these with blotchy purple spots and jagged leaves, be extra careful. This is giant hogweed and is far more dangerous than our native. Make sure you're completely covered and avoid doing it in the sunshine, not a job for this week!

The Uk's most poisonous plant is worth knowing if you try and take a chunk out if you'll know about it later. She looks harmless but is full of harmful neurotoxins, causing severe illness and muscle spasms before death.

If you're new to foraging or identifying plants, don't pick anything that resembles carrots or celery in the wild, particularly if it's near water.

A deep secret about to unfurl!

This is Rose 'Deep Secret' . If you're looking for a classic rich red rose, you can't go wrong with this. It's so beautiful. There are so many buds this year, I can't wait for next week!

Here come the perennial poppies, Papaver orientale, in all their glory. I love these, so beautiful, and easy to look after.

If they're calling out to you for your bread or cakes, here's your warning. Don't eat them, they're toxic! Edible poppy seeds must be harvested from Papaver somniferum or the o***m poppy. I'll do a post on them later in the year so you can see the difference.
