Just posting this to inspire you to grow some lettuce! Supermarket staple 'Iceberg' is a bit... hmm... bland? πŸ˜’
There are so many delicious varieties with different flavour profiles - from Lobjoits to my favourite Dark Roden and Passion Brune, spicy Mesclun Mix, Oakleaf and buttery Regina D'Estate πŸ₯—
Easy to grow, now is perfect time to sow them - you won't have to buy lettuce for months! And you can be the cool kid on the block, giving out lettuce to everyone like there's no tomorrow πŸ˜‚πŸ₯°

Do you have a favourite variety you grow?

I find vegetables and fruit sooooo beautiful!
Trying to snap my mind back into gardening mode so here is a reminder of a few of my previous harvests - it still feels weird when you think about the tiny seeds we sow and then... they turn into edible, delicious and nutritious food we can eat!
It's magic! 😍β™₯️

Today was powered by the Vengaboys 🎢 🎡
I got myself a new sexy rake, too!
Manured rhubarb, strawberries and currants, sowed lettuce, spinach and carrots in beds and did more weeding as well as cutting back overly boisterous honeysuckle.
One half of the plot is done and now need to tackle the other half 🫠
I'm not faffing this year with any fancy crops, it’s going to be very traditional: carrots, beans, lettuces and some beetroot. I'm planning to sow most things direct in beds rather than starting in the greenhouse. With the exception of courgettes and beans I guess 🫘
Needs to be simple and straightforward because I'm so time poor at the moment - hope my plan works πŸ™

I haven't sown anything yet because I fell out of love with my plot again πŸ˜‚
Didn't visit for almost a month.
My greenhouses are empty and beds only have what self seeded/perennials.
I think we've reconciled yesterday after I spent a whole day on my knees, weeding the whole place like my life depended on it.
You know, it was a ferocious kind of "rage weeding" day...
So much so I only took 4 photos. Headphones on, tunnel vision, no thinking.. just doing.
Anyway, back to it. I can see the light πŸ‘€
Square by square, one foot in front of the other, stab, stab, lift and throw... and repeat πŸ’ͺ

I am broken... I think?🀣
Happy 1st of March!
I've spent 2 days just weeding, furiously and relentlessly weeding. Stab, dig, lift and throw away, then repeat until fingers wouldn't comply.
Mark has been preparing the ground for the poly and between us I'm pretty sure we dug out enough bindweed to wrap the Earth 76 times!
Bloody thing! Ugh!
Anyway...I was going to cook tea but I think I'll be calling my local Chinese instead πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‹
Hope everyone is well and prepping like mad for the growing season?

Arch-spiration ❀️
I do love a good arch! πŸ˜…
These rose laden arches on the Polish allotments give off Bridgerton vibes! 🌹
They really add flavour to what sometimes can be one dimensional landscape - and also, you can almost double your growing space by adding vertical supports!
As I grow on the allotment I always bought the cheap Β£10 arches but they never last... I'd like to invest in something that will last a lifetime and won't fall apart after one rainy day πŸ™ƒ
I have wisteria, jasmine and Roses and clematis who need one ASAP 🌹
If you have an arch that lasted really well, let me know please πŸ™

I've finally visited .garden.house 🀍
Last year I missed the festival again and wanted to make sure I get to see it all with my own eyes in 2026!
The sun was shining today and I can't tell you how amazing it felt to actually feel the sunshine on my skin (there's a lovely name for that actually-> 'apricity') ✨️
The snowdrops were simply glistening and sparkling in the sunshine - there are so many and even if first they look the same... they are not 🀍
Grass carpeted with crocuses, snowdrops, narcissi, cyclamen, camelias shedding their colourful petals and scent of Daphne on every corner!
What a treat for the sleepy senses ❀️
Really stunning place and I can't wait to visit again when everything is in blossom 🌸
I've actually put it in my diary to visit every month as I can feel this place will become one of my favourites 😍
If you have RHS membership, you can enter for free as it's a partner garden 🌸

Gardening is definitely a forever evolving hobby and I love to look back at what once was, what vision I had and what I have achieved.
My 2nd half of the plot was definitely a challenge but I loved it πŸ’š
The sad part is that many allotments are in quite a dilapidated state and quite frankly, it is so easy for it to get to that state. Few months off with illness, family, lack of funds and boom, it's in a state.
I've been there myself but luckily, always manage to get it back to where it needs to be. I wanted to give up often as it's a lot of hard work.
I think this is also why I always wanted to make it very low maintenance for myself because I am so busy and sometimes just don't have time for it, so I want it to look after itself, without looking like it's been abandoned..
The plot still is very much work in progress and this spring I will be putting up the polytunnel which will be the final puzzle piece!
There will be pink and orange theme and of course lots of bunting and fairy lights because my tomatoes need dopamine just as much as I do! πŸ˜‚πŸ₯³

Fantastic weeding and tidying session - forgot how much I love it πŸ’š
It rained and it poured but... we're not made of sugar so we carry on!
Today felt like a little delicious glimmer after what seemed to be a never ending darkness ☺️
It's 16:55 and it's still light outside!
I'm sitting down, drinking my earl grey tea and do you know what?

I think it's in winter when all the whimsical gates come alive as they're not competing with plants for our attention πŸ’š

Let this be a reminder that gardens and allotments need time to mature πŸ’š
You don't need to spend a fortune either... despite social media incessantly pressuring us all to buy, buy, buy... just take it slow and enjoy the growth πŸ₯°
