Your alarm went off after a power cut. Here's why, and what it means.

When the mains power drops, your alarm system switches to its backup battery to keep running. When the power comes back on, some systems will trigger a fault alert or even a full alarm activation. It's the system doing its job, but if nobody's explained that to you before, it can catch you off guard.

If your alarm is going off regularly after power cuts, or showing a fault light that won't clear, it's usually one of three things: the backup battery is getting weak, the system needs reprogramming, or it simply needs a service it hasn't had in a while.

None of those are emergencies. But they are worth sorting before the battery gives up entirely and your system stops working when you actually need it.
