A proud day for Team HHB 🏅

Andy completed the Plymouth Half Marathon today, while Henry took on the Schools
Challenge — both bringing home their medals!

Lots of determination, training and effort from them both, and we’re incredibly proud 👏

A great reminder that hard work, consistency and showing up pays off — whether that’s on site or on the race course.

Barn Build Update 🔨

Solid progress being made on site. The valley linking the two buildings has now been fully decked, prepped and ready for its GRP finish.

Inside, the Douglas fir feature trusses are now in place, with the tension rods set to be powder coated and installed—these will really make the barn stand out. First fix plumbing is complete, and 150mm floor insulation is down, laying the groundwork for a warm and efficient space. Up top, the roof is felted and battened, ready for slating and PV panels.

Next up: underfloor heating and screed.

Everything moving forward nicely—bringing this barn build together step by step

Barn Build Update 🔨

The valley linking the two buildings has now been fully decked, prepped and ready for its GRP finish.

Inside, the Douglas fir feature trusses are now in place, with the tension rods set to be powder coated and installed—these will really give that barn like feeling.

Porch Extension

This timber frame porch extension adds both character and practicality to the front of the home. The new composite front door, complete with glazed panels, keeps the space feeling bright and welcoming throughout the day.

Externally, the finish is completed with durable fibre cement wall cladding for a clean, modern look. Inside, the space has been fully plastered and skimmed, spotlights and an electric heater, then finished with stunning herringbone oak flooring for a warm, high-end feel.

Barn build progress 🙌

Roof is cut in and looking sharp. We’ve got the structure sarked out with OSB and the timber frame fully wrapped — things are really starting to take shape now.

Next up: felt and batten the roof and counter batten the walls… getting everything prepped and ready for some beautiful cedar cladding 🔥

We’ve hit some big milestones over the last couple weeks.
✔️ Concrete slab poured
✔️ Timber frame walls up
✔️ Patio slab completed

Next up — the cut roof. This will create stunning vaulted ceilings, opening up the space, increasing volume, and giving us the flexibility to position skylights exactly where we want them for maximum natural light.

We’ve been quiet on here lately.

Not because things have slowed down — quite the opposite.

It’s been a busy start to the year for us at Hobbs Home Building Co. Extensions started, new build & loft conversions, working with some great clients on homes across Devon and Cornwall, and we’re proud to be trusted with projects that really matter to families.

We don’t shout about every job while it’s happening — we focus on the job at hand. But there are some brilliant builds coming up that we’re looking forward to sharing.
