After today's shenanigans on site in that ridiculous heat — sweating buckets from start to finish — I walk through the door to this. 🥵❤️
A frozen flannel and an ice cold glass of water waiting for me.
I didn't ask. It was just there. Ready and waiting.
Now if that isn't love I genuinely do not know what is. 😂❤️
Jess — you are an absolute diamond and don't you forget it. 🙏

Over 30 degrees today. On a building site. In full sun. 🥵🏗️
We won't pretend it was easy because it absolutely wasn't. Today was one of those days where every hour felt like two and the sun just had absolutely no interest in letting up. Keeping a team going in that heat takes real grit and every single one of our lads deserves enormous credit for today.
And today we had some extra hands on deck.
A huge shoutout to the brilliant team at D.A. Building Services who have been giving us a hand across both of our extensions that are currently on the go. When you are running two extension builds simultaneously in 30 degree heat having a trusted team alongside you makes all the difference in the world. We genuinely appreciate them. 🙏
Here is what we achieved today.
We have got this single storey extension up to damp proof course and we have started preparing the ground floor ready for the concrete pour. On a day like today in that heat that is a serious amount of progress and we are genuinely proud of how far we have moved this build forward.
Getting to DPC is one of those milestones that really matters on any extension build. It means the foundations are done, the blockwork is rising, and the build is starting to take real shape. From here things start to move quickly and visually this is where it really starts to look like something special. 🏗️

Day one of our new single storey extension build and before anything can go up — a fair bit has to come down first. 🏗️💪
This is the part of a build that doesn't always make it onto social media but we think it's just as important to show. Demolition is where every extension really begins. Clearing the way, stripping back, and getting the site ready so that when we do start building we are working from a clean and solid starting point.
There is a satisfaction to demolition that is hard to explain. Taking something old and tired away to make room for something brand new and brilliant. Our customer has been dreaming about this extension for a long time and today is the day it officially begins — even if right now it looks more like organised chaos than a building site. 😂
Once the demolition is complete the real fun starts. Footings, foundations, blockwork, and then watch this space — because this extension is going to completely transform this home.

Right. Hear me out. 😂
So the heatwave arrived yesterday and last night the bedroom was absolutely unbearable. You know that feeling where even the sheets feel like they're on fire and you've completely run out of ideas at 2am? Yeah. That.
So Jess and I made a decision.
We've moved the bedroom outside. 😂
Full setup. Bed under the stars. Fresh air. The whole lot.
And we weren't alone.
Elsie thought it was the greatest adventure of her entire life. I mean genuinely — the excitement on her face when she realised we were all sleeping outside together was something else. This is the kind of thing she'll probably talk about forever and honestly? Same. 😂
And Simba. Oh Simba was absolutely beside himself. His entire family. Outside. In his territory. All night. He could not have been happier if he tried. He was running around like he'd won the lottery. 😂
Is it crazy? Possibly.
Is it genius? We're going with yes. 😂
Lying there last night looking up at the stars with a proper breeze on your face, your little girl fast asleep next to you and the dog convinced he's the happiest dog alive — honestly it was one of those moments you just want to bottle up and keep forever.
The heatwave brought us outside. But this memory is one we'll keep forever.

We don't share other people's content very often. But this one stopped us in our tracks and we feel a responsibility to share it. ⚠️

What you are about to watch is the entire front elevation of a building collapsing during building work. The reason? Whoever was undertaking this work did not use adequate propping to support the masonry.

We want to be clear — we don't know the full circumstances behind this video. We don't know who was responsible or where this took place. What we do know is that this is exactly what can happen when temporary works and propping are not taken seriously.

Propping masonry during building work is not optional. It is not something you cut corners on. It is not something you leave to chance or gut feeling. It is a fundamental part of safe building practice and when it goes wrong this is what happens.

Buildings can be rebuilt. The thing that worries us most watching this video is the people. Whether anyone was inside, whether anyone was nearby, whether everyone got home safely. That is all that matters.

We have been on the tools for over a decade and videos like this still make us stop and take stock. Because construction done badly doesn't just cost money. It costs lives.

Cowboy builder update. And we really didn't think it could get any worse. 😤
After sitting down and going through the drawings properly — something the last builder clearly never bothered to do — we made a discovery that stopped us in our tracks.
Every single foundation on this two storey extension has been built in the wrong place.
Not one of them. Not a couple of them. Every single one. Wrong position. All of them.
We genuinely don't know how someone can pick up a set of drawings, look at them, and then build every single foundation in the wrong place. But here we are.
The most important thing right now is our customer. A real person who trusted someone with their home and their hard earned money and was let down in the most catastrophic way possible. That never leaves you as a contractor. It makes you angry and it makes you more determined than ever to put it right.
But here is where the story starts to change.
We have now stripped everything back completely and we are at a point where we can start laying concrete properly. Right position. Right place. Exactly where the drawings say they should be. With building control alongside us every single step of the way.
From here the only direction is up. Literally and figuratively. 🏗️
