Do timber windows work for Passivhaus projects?

Absolutely.

There’s a common assumption that high performance homes automatically require aluminium clad systems, but that’s not really the case.

What Passivhaus actually cares about is performance. Things like airtightness, heat loss and overall window efficiency.

And well specified triple glazed timber windows can absolutely achieve that.

The material itself isn’t the deciding factor.

Long Barn is a single-storey home in Hertfordshire designed by TAS Architects, completed in 2024. Two off-site manufactured timber-framed volumes are arranged around a central courtyard garden, with the glazing composition framing views of the mature planting and trees beyond.

The project was designed and delivered to AECB standards throughout, and has recently been shortlisted for the RIBA East Awards 2026.

We've chosen a selection of our most popular products, all suitable for Passive Houses, to showcase Norrsken in the new Midlands location. BIM objects are in development to make working them into your projects that much simpler.
