Great week in Southampton!

• Unique Alumminium Decks Ltd part of Unique Outdoor Living Group carried out the installation aluminum decking and handrails on all balconies, including Juliet balconies, in Southampton.

• This involved removing existing wood decking and soffits, replacing them with Alideck 30mm Snr decking boards and drainage channels, and installing low joists to adjust levels.

• Wooden handrails were also replaced with powder-coated aluminum ones.

Job Overview
The role involves constructing, installing, repairing, and maintaining outdoor decking structures for both residential and commercial properties. This position demands strong practical carpentry skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work safely, working at height at times with various tools and materials in outdoor environments.

Key Responsibilities
• Measure, cut, and assemble decking materials, including aluminium, composite, timber, and other materials as required for each project.
• Install subframes, joists, posts, and other supporting structures to provide a stable and secure base for decking.
• Lay and secure decking boards, ensuring all work aligns with the specified design plans and requirements.
• Fit handrails, balustrades, steps, and skirting to complete the installation of the decking structure.
• Ensure all work complies with current building regulations and adheres strictly to safety standards.
• Operate power tools and hand tools safely and efficiently throughout the installation process.
• Prepare and level ground surfaces before commencing installation work to ensure stability and accuracy.
• Repair or replace damaged components of existing decking structures as necessary.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area at all times, upholding high standards of safety and organisation.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with PM, team members, and clients to ensure smooth project delivery.

Required Skills & Qualifications
• Proven experience in decking installation or general carpentry.
• Sound knowledge of construction techniques and familiarity with various building materials.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings with accuracy.
• Strong measuring and mathematical skills to ensure precise construction work.
• Proficiency in the safe use of power tools and equipment.
• Physical stamina and the ability to lift and handle heavy materials as part of daily tasks.
• Clear understanding of workplace health and safety procedures and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications
• NVQ or other recognised vocational qualification in Carpentry or Construction.
• Previous experience with the installation of aluminium/composite decking systems.
• Possession of a CSCS card or an equivalent industry certification.
• First Aid certification.

Working Conditions
• Work is carried out outdoors, often in varying weather conditions.

The ideal candidate will understand our services—from garden rooms and decking to aluminium and composite materials—as well as other carpentry skills, including commercial and residential fire safety doors. You must be capable of working independently, adhering to all health and safety standards, and managing a small team.
Successful applicants should be hardworking and dependable, with excellent communication and organisational skills. They should also have completed a carpentry course or possess equivalent experience in the field.
Responsibilities:
- Lead installation projects with management support.
- Manage a small team of installer labourers (team of 3).
- Assist management with structural design, planning, layout, and installation.
- Read and interpret designs to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Liaise with clients, suppliers, and other tradespeople.
- Design and install wood, composite, aluminium decking, fencing, garden rooms, and balustrade systems.
- Assess the quality of workmanship and materials.

Unique Outdoor Living Group has initiated their latest project in Wolverhampton, installing 120 m² of Envirobuild composite decking and subframe system on two corner balconies at a new manufacturing site.
On Day 3, they completed the installation of the composite joists and pedestals for the subframe, with decking boards scheduled for installation the following day.

Is it time for property management and building contractors to get a grip on this never-ending saga? Why are these situations not being dealt with? The government now needs to enforce the remedial works undertaken and finance the works, retrieving the monies invested from the building contractors! Forcible punishment, if not compliant!
