The Travelling Tiny Gallery is now in its full glory at the Bright & Beautiful exhibition at the Jubilee Hall, Poundbury. Sales of the mini artworks going to Dorset County Hospital. Rather pleased with how it looks.. mezzanine and Perspex roof window look particularly great! Another job by Handy Hames 👍

I thought it was about time that I shared some of the projects I have been working on over the past couple of months. Much of my work has been WITH or FOR local artists. I use as much recycled timber as I possibly can, but where this isn’t possible I am a pretty good customer of Dorchester Timber where I am known as ‘The Jock on the Rock’!
I like a challenge, and have been involved in making huge artist painting panels, some framing (tray frames), Wedding event A-Frame and easel for table plan etc., Portland Wind Phone, The Tiny Gallery (on tour), refurbishing garden gate
probably much more but no photos taken đŸ˜ƒđŸ€”

If you have a project that involves making something in wood (not a fan of MDF sorry) DM me. I am based on Portland with a workshop on Southwell Business Park.

Cheers

I'm involved in a couple of community projects at the moment. The 'wind phone' on Portland is in the process of being created. Google 'wind phones' for more info on them. This one is one of only 5 in the UK but they exist in different forms across the World.

The other project is a portable 'Tiny Gallery'. The success of the first one with artists and community groups on Portland has encouraged the project managers Antje Rook and Yollande Posthumus to come up with a new one that can be installed in exhibitions etc on a temporary basis.
All good to keep someone like me occupied!

In the run up to Dorset Art Weeks I have been busy creating tray frames for local artists. It’s something I have been doing for my wife for a while now, but word has spread. These pine frames are simple but sturdy. I was pleased to be asked by talented artist Charlotte Beare Art to support her wonderful creations for her Hall & Woodhouse commission for DAW.
Wishing all the artists taking part in this open studio event the very best of luck!

Today’s poem, ‘The Caveman’s Lament’ was written around 1.5 million years ago by one of our earliest ancestors, homo unrequitus.

It is considered to be the world’s oldest surviving love poem.

This translated version of the poem appears in my collection ‘Alexa, what is there to know about love?’

In the process of making exhibition panels for local community art group Artwey, for their Artisan days at the VIEW cafe/bar at the Heights Hotel, Portland.
These are on castors so easily moved and flexible enough to use for hanging 2D work and some 3D stuff on the bottom plinth.
