Loft conversions - sometimes it’s not about just adding a big dormer on the back, but creating a space with plenty of light and feeling that loft vibe with the shape of the roof over you. Lofts don’t have to be the same, get in contact to discuss yours.

So while lockdown has been a challenge, I decided to lay my own patio / hardstanding using old bricks I’d saved from some internal alterations, grabbed a load out of a neighbour’s skip who was having work done, a garden wall that was partially falling down, and a few I picked up for free on Facebook marketplace.

Hardcore base from broken bricks and demolition material smashed with a club hammer with just thin layer of MoT compacted with a wacker plate. 40-50mm sharp sand levelled then place the bricks down. They were different sizes so it was a case of fitting what worked. I didn’t want to disc cut any bricks, so any cuts are with hammer & bolster and a brick hammer.

To finish I brushed in sharp sand to the bigger gaps then finished off brushing in a kiln dried paver sand which is very fine, very dry and slides into all the gaps.
