What makes a piece of joinery bespoke? For us, it starts with the space: how it will be used, who will use it, and what it needs to deliver day after day. 🪵

A reception desk might need to incorporate technology and cope with heavy daily use.

Seating needs to look great while withstanding heavy daily use.

A media wall might need to bring together screens, storage and services, all while keeping the overall design clean and considered.

Look at the difference six weeks can make! 👀

We think the transformation at Academy @ Worden looks fantastic, with a revamped entrance and reception area, bespoke purple reception desk and upgraded changing rooms, all completed during the summer holidays ready for the new academic year.

As main contractor, JSJ UK managed the project from groundworks and strip-out through to bespoke manufacture, installation and final handover, working to a fixed deadline.

There’s always something taking shape in the JSJ UK workshop. 🔨🔨🔨

At the moment, the team is busy making a bespoke welcome screen for a major new office in central Manchester.

It’s a clever double-sided design, with illuminated signage on the front, space for a double AV screen setup on the back and planter troughs running along the base. The finished piece will bring together premium laminates, solid oak trims and integrated LED profiles.

The drawing gives you a glimpse of the original vision; and you can see the piece taking shape in the workshop, with the team working through the detail and preparing the piece for installation on site.

This is where design meets practical expertise: transforming a concept from the drawing board into a finished piece that can be manufactured efficiently, delivered safely and installed to the high standards expected of JSJ UK.

A great design is only the starting point and as it’s World Architecture Day, we’re taking a look at what happens when an architect’s drawings make their way to our workshop.

We love working with architects and designers to take those initial ideas and turn them into bespoke joinery that not only looks great, but works in the real world. Because there’s always more to consider than what you can see on the drawing.

📐 Can it be manufactured as designed?

🪵 Are the materials right for the space?

📏 Have the correct tolerances been allowed for?

🔨 Will it stand up to everyday use?

🚚 Can it actually get into the building and be installed?

These details might not be the first things you notice when you look at a finished piece, but they can make a huge difference to the end result.

🚀 Q4 is here, and the JSJ UK team are busier than ever!

The workshop is in full swing, with bespoke joinery moving through production while our site teams are out across the North West and the Midlands, getting projects installed and over the line to the quality and craftsmanship we’ve built our reputation on.

Every project brings a new challenge, but our priorities never change: precise joinery, skilled workmanship and a job delivered properly from start to finish. 🔨

There’s plenty more to come over the next few months, and we can’t wait to share more of the work we’re getting stuck into.

Ever wondered what a project looks like before anything starts taking shape on site? 👀

This drawing, produced by our designer at the start of the project, shows the original plans for a major office scheme we’ve now completed in the Midlands.

Our work extended across several floors of the new office, including conference rooms, meeting rooms, the entrance lobby and toilets. The completed joinery package featured an AV wall, feature wall, panelling, tea points, WCs and mirrors.

The finished spaces are now complete, bringing the original drawings to life through carefully manufactured and installed bespoke joinery.

Sometimes, it’s the details you don’t notice that take the most work. 👀🔨

With bespoke joinery, the small details can make a big difference to the finished installation.

From integrated lighting and concealed fixings to carefully matched finishes, curves, edge details and clever storage, there’s a lot that goes into making a piece look seamless.

Bespoke joinery is about more than making something unique. We’re open with our clients about which options will work in practice, stand the test of time and continue to look good. If there’s a better long-term solution, we’ll recommend it.

From drawings to the finished installation, doesn’t this reception desk look good? 👀🔨

Here’s a first look at the reception desk for Academy @ Worden, from the initial drawings through to the finished joinery.

JSJ UK managed the complete process, working closely with the client to select the right materials and finishes before manufacturing the desk at our Lancashire HQ, delivering it to site and completing the installation.

The result is a reception desk that looks the part, while being built to stand up to the demands of a busy school environment.

Youth zones are becoming something of a speciality for us 🔨👀

Over the years, JSJ UK has built a reputation for delivering bespoke joinery and fit-out packages for youth zone projects across the North West, including Warrington and Darwen.

And we’re now working on another one that we can’t wait to reveal soon.

From doors, reception desks and tea points to vanity units, lockers, drawers, planters and TV units, we can provide everything needed to bring the joinery package together, all manufactured and finished to the high standard always expected of JSJ UK.

We know these spaces need to be practical, durable and able to stand up to daily use, while still looking great. That’s where our experience really comes in.
